  1. I've heard that even people who have never had an outbreak but test positive for antibodies can shed about 10% of the time and pass the virus. If that person was in a marriage and didn't want to pass to their partner, and took antivirals, could the antivirals possibly cause the person to start having outbreaks because the virus strengthens or becomes resistant to the meds? Some doctors say asymptomatic people don't shed and others say opposite. Makers of antivirals say in the description they can be used by symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals to "reduce" shedding and transmission.

    Daily Antivirals Aren't Working

Hello there. I'm a 24F, who has had HSV 1 for 3 and a half years now. I got my first cold sore December of 2016 out of no where when I was 21. I was in school and working at a job that had me very stressed at all time. I came home one day and saw the bumps. Initially, I'd never thought anything of it as my dad always had them when I was growing up. Of course, you go on Google and after about 20 minutes of searching, you are absolutely devastated and disgusted with yourself. The first year after my 1st outbreak, I'd occasionally experience some shedding, but didn't get another breakout un

    Help - transmission rates

I have a new partner and we are getting close but he is extremely scared to be intimate...even to the point that he wants to wear gloves for intimacy. He wants a guarantee he will be safe, and I told him I am on 1000 mg valocyclovoir and 1000 mg L-Lysine daily. That the risk is approx. 2%. However I noticed in some posts that this risk states annually, can someone please give me any/as much of a breakdown and info on this to help me ease his mind. I care about him very much and want him to feel comfortable and safe. I would never put his health at risk...and of course we would also use co
  4. I have genital hsv2 and started dating someone who also had genital hsv2 a couple of months ago. I've had it for 18 months and he already had it for 27 years. I haven't been on antivirals because I only had the initial outbreak and 1 more mild one during this time. He was aware of that when we got into this relationship and was not worried about it but, unfortunately I believe I transmitted hsv2 to his oral area when he performed oral sex on me. Then he freaked out, I don't blame him...it was a bad outbreak. He now says that he is afraid of going down on me and doesn't know if we will be able
  5. Going on 11 weeks of back to back obs. I was diagnosed with HSV2 but it is on the palm of my hand. I just now started taking daily antivirals. Im nervous about taking the meds and any side effects I could get from taking them daily, also wondering if my body will become immune to them? Is it normal to have so many outbreaks? I’ve never had an ob on my genitals but I feel like I would know if I ever had right? I’m scared because my dr told me I didn’t need to tell my sexual partners and didn’t need to worry about using condoms because the ob is on my hand and I always keep it covere

When you guys have prodrome symptoms how many doses of acyclovir does it take to knock out your OB if you catch it quick?
  7. Interesting longitudinal study from Taiwan showing that when those with HSV took antivirals the risk of developing dementia is significantly reduced. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13311-018-0611-x Since this study was the result of examining available information, not a direct placebo controlled study, it will be interesting to see the outcome of the two current placebo controlled trials on this topic. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?cond=Alzheimer+herpes&term=&cntry=&state=&city=&dist=
  8. Hi all, I came across this blog post and wanted to get your input. Is it really possible to keep transmission rates this low? Thanks, Alex. https://hsvblog.org/herpes-simplex-virus-101/ Transmission To give you a realistic idea that demonstrates exactly how much safer sex with an HSV+ partner is, take a look at the numbers provided by scientific studies. By avoiding sex during an active outbreak, chances of virus transmission are 4% a year (Terri Warren, RN, NP – WebMD, 2005). Yes, per year, not sexual session. In the study that this is based off, couple
  9. The main topic is about hiv, but later in the article they say, "The researchers say, in the future, the oral drug delivery device could be used for a wide range of diseases, not just HIV." A once a week valtrex pill perhaps? http://www.bbc.com/news/health-42610315

  11. It has been almost 2 months of hell with my ongoing symptoms which I’ve detsiled on past posts. This week I’m having very bad headaches, twitching, a bit shaky hands, tingling, tinnitus, etc. I have been tested 4 times, once at 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 and 5 weeks but all so far negative. I know many here like to say it’s not herpes but my symptoms remain and it is becoming too much. I am going to try get some AV medication (Acyclovir or Valtrex) and see if this helps with anything. My question is, if I take the AV meds will it impact the accuracy of IGG blood tests going forwar
  12. Is there anyone here from India that knows a doctor that will prescribe AV medication without much trouble? If so please let @Hallow know ASAP. He is suffering very much. Thank you. 13. Has anyone had poor experiences with Antivirals where your condition became worse as a result? My assumption is this is not common. I the below post on medhelp and was curious what experiences people have had here: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Neurology/Herpes-and-Neuropathy/show/341130#post_answer_header

    First Outbreak

All, I know the first outbreak is the most painful . Is it preferable to suffer through it to allow the immune system to kick in and adjust and attack it or to take the antivirals to suppress it?
  15. Hi All, Looking for some necessary advice...If I want to get my gf pregnant what are the chance of me infecting her if I 1. Don't use a condom / don't use antivirals 2. Use antivirals Since 70%-80% of people are asymptotic there must be a lot of people having regular unprotected sex that are not aware they have HSV.... Thank you!

Question for all you veterans out there. I'm about two months into an outbreak. Every time I think I'm over it a blister pops up somewhere else. I was diagnosed with HSV2 genitally some years ago but now I developed a cold sore on my lip. That subsided and a new blister showed up on my forearm, then chest, then the other arm. Now I got one on the side of my knee. The doctor prescribed me famvir 250 mg twice daily for suppressive therapy but it doesn't seem to be working for an episodic event. How much should I be taking to beat this thing back? Can anyone share there experience with Famvir?

    Hsv1 and Hsv2

Welp, here I am...a herpes support online forum. I got the call today that I tested positive for HSV1 and HSV2. The nurse did not say if they were oral or genital specific. My doctor prescribed me the generic for valtrax or however you spell it and I took my first pill tonight. Rewind to almost a year and a half ago when I went to the doctor while I had an outbreak in my nose! They did a complete blood work up on me and she said I came up positive for both simplex 1 and 2. I was DEVASTATED like threw up from crying so hard and went home from work lol. The doctor knew how hysterical

  20. I have been on Acyclovir since what was suspected as my first outbreak on my butt 7 weeks ago after a brief but risky exposure. I came off about two weeks ago so I wouldn't have issues with false negative blood tests. Unfortunatly after a few days I developed fissures inside my leg fold at the groin/leg. I felt terrible being off the Acyclovir with extreme tiredness early in the evening with lots of tingling and burning in the legs, butt and even arms. The Proctitis I'm experiencing intensified as well. So after about a week off I went back on. I think it's pretty obvious that i
  21. Hello all! I'm back with more questions regarding a full cure. In 2008, Cullen made headlines and projected 10 years until the mircoRNA drug was made available. Well, we are coming up on the 10 year mark. My questions: Is the approach that was mentioned in 2008 dead in the water? Are there any other researchers looking to get the virus out of latency and flood it with antivirals? What's current with Cullen and Bloom, besides the work with Editas? Thank you in advance for your responses, Yammy
  22. There's been some evidence to suggest that taking daily oral PreP reduces the risk of herpes transmission some 30%. But is there any reason to suspect that PreP may merely delay HSV-1/-2 IgG seroconversion in the same manner that other daily antivirals such as valacyclovir do?
  23. Since my test was POS ( IGG level over 5.0 ) and She is NEG for HSV2, what is the safest way for us to be together as a couple, and also have sex? ( Taking into consideration both protected and unprotected. ) I assume acyclovir is the main antiviral medication to supress Herpes. I assume a maintenance dosage is 400mg 3x a day; So 1200mg daily. Where can I get a permanent Rx for acyclovir ? I don't mind seeing my doctor, but truthfully He's been very hard to work with - and I'm looking for alternatives. Doctors and Clinics as well, usually say - "Show me your Ou

    information on transmission

I recently joined positive singles and met someone who could be a possible match. That being said I have a few questions. I'm not really sure exactly which type of herpes I have, but I believe it's hsv2because I've never had cold sores and I do not believe the person I contracted it from has either. With the assumption that I am HSV 2 positive, if I were to have oral sex with an another person who is hsv2 positive can I get that in my mouth area or because I already have the virus in my body am i safe from exposure? And also, is it less likely for transmission if from whichever type I do

    constant itch...please help

Hi, I am in my first outbreak and was diagnosed 5 weeks ago. I'm on a second dose of Valtrex. 1 week 500 MG twice daily, but I have begun taking three as of today. I am on Lysine 1000 MG, and have also increased that today to 2000. I am an uncontrolled diabetic and have several of the other outbreak onset indicators. The sores have been gone for about two weeks now, but the itch is driving me CRAZY! IT does occasionally go away for a short few hours..but always returns. I wwould live some support as at this point I have tried almost everything...they all kinda help at first. Then stop.
