Very Scared

Hi I have had HSV1 since birth, I just had a O/B on friday afternoon. What I am scared about is I might have infected a person which I was spending time with on tuesday night, we like each other to the point where were hanging out shooting pool and drinking beer. When I said good bye she turned around and before I knew it she kissed me on the lips. Is there a high probability I have infected her? This was my first O/B in 2 yrs. I had almost forgotten about them. I have never been this scared I feel like I might have destroyed her life. I'm going to tell her I can't ever see her again because of my coldsores. I don't know how she will accept it. Maybe she has a different attitude then what i'm expecting. She works in the entertainment industry where she has to look her best. I really hope she isn't infected, but then I realised where does that leave me alone for the rest of my life? I didn't think much of coldsores before just another thing to battle. Now I am really scared of being alone and infecting other people.

Remember the episode of the Brady Bunch when Peter kissed.... what was her name? Melissa something? and she said he shouldn't have done that cause she had mono?

That story reminded me of that - were you contageous - maybe, low probability she got it from a goodbye kiss - unless it was an extended goodbye kiss....

you could tell her you got a coldsore after, and you may have been contageous and she should be aware - but the probability in my opinion is low.

Your concerns are understandable but your problem is also very manageable. Yes, you do need to tell her...just in case. It's only fair. There are many options available to you in managing HSV1. Talk to your doctor about episodic treatment with Valtrex. I have a friend who has HSV1 and can't say enough about how quickly Valtrex clears it up. Take a deep breath, do some research and talk to your doctor or a counselor at a local STD clinic. Hang in there!
