can someone tell me if this is herpes?

my anus started hurting. then it became a little itchy. i started to scratch around it. small clustered bumps started to form next to it. the bumps are smaller than a zit, and dont stick out as much as a zit. the bumps are on the right side of my anus, very close to my anus. they are pinkish bumps. i looked at them yesterday, and little black dots formed on top of each of the pink dots. the black dots are really small. there is no pus inside. in the beginning, i thought it was a rash, until i saw those black dots.

ive never had anal sex before, but the bumps are next to my anus, and kind of far away from my vagina.

could it be herpes?? does is sound like it?

it's not warts, cuz it does not stick out. there are no blisters (no fluid inside). i mistaked it for a rash. it has lil flat bumps that are pink. it looks ugly because of the black dot in the middle. if you took the black dot away, it would look like a normal irritation.

anyway, i went to the hospital. one in family practice and one in ob/gyn. 3 doctors and 1 nurse saw me total. all are not sure what it is. they say herpes is a possibility, but i believe they only say that cuz its in anal area (but ive never done anything there before). they can't say what it is for sure, but they dont want to say it is not herpes (they dont want to get sued, or keep my hopes up). the ob/gyn doctor said she never seen herpes looking like that in her life. she said she would send me back to family practice. when i went to family practice (before i went to ob/gyn), the doctors had no idea what it was either.. they were all confused. so they got my blood sample and qtipped that area to culture it. now i just have to wait...

what do u guys think?

what you are describing almost sounds like scabies. Scabies can be contacted just by flesh to flesh contact....curable, but a nasty pain in the butt...scuse my pun there....but make sure to get it checked out.

i asked ta dr, and she said that scabies usually occurs on the body. u itch like crazy, and most of the itchiness occurs at night.

my symptoms are : sometimes it itches and sometimes it stings.

a nurse said that those are the symptoms of herpes. but then again, those are the symptoms for a lot of things.

one dr, who has never seen my anus, said that what i described to her sounds like folliculitis, but when i asked other drs who have seen my anus, they said it wasn't, but did not tell me why.

i'm really bummed out :(

ah man....booty problems...(trying to make you smile here!) I still think that it "sounds " like scabies. my cousin got it on his hand once and that is what it looked like. Red bumps with little black spots in the middle. Highly contagious. (clothes bedding, you name it). Yukky little things. And going and getting checked by a doctor, especially in THAT region, is SO distressing.

I hope all is well. Good luck to you. Try not to worry or stress too much. I wish I knew of a home remedy that would help. :?

so it stopped hurting for awhile...5 days maybe. and now it hurts again!! it itched earlier today, and now it BURNS! :( it just looks pink around the anus area (no more black dots on clustered 14 tiny pink bumps of an inch wide), and it looks like its healing. there 1 little skin coming off though (not from any blisters or anything). WEIRD.

so ob/gyn lied to me. they said i'd know by wednesday (they said it would take 7 days). usually when they tell you a day, they tell you more days than the actual so you wont get pissed off at them.

family practice lied to me too. they said 10 days. 10 days would be friday. but no calls!

i can't think staight until i know my results. it's hard for me to study. i screwed up on my midterm because i was wasting my time looking at herpes pictures on google to find one that matched mine.

i got my pap smear results though, which came out normal. took them the same time as the ob/gyn culture test.

in conclusion, i am still waiting for my 2 culture test and 1 blood test.

let me know what happens when you get your results because what you are describing, the red dots with little black spots on them sound exactly like what is on the side of my penis. They rarely ever itch and dont burn either, they are just there. They showed up a few days ago and I have no idea what it is. Please inform me of your results.

Another thing about mine is that they showed up the day after i had unprotected sex with my girlfriend who was a virgin before she got with me. I have had unprotected sex before with another girl but that was almost a year ago. I know they say that herpes can live dormant with no symptoms for awhile but it just seems to much of a coincidence that they didnt show up until the day after i had sex with my new girlfriend. Sorry, not trying to draw away from your problem just letting you know since you said you have never done anything in that area and i dont think i got mine from having sex with my new girlfriend. Once again just please inform me on your results.

yeah.. i'll tell you my results when i get them. i'm going to call on tuesday, since tomorrow (monday) is memorial day.

i asked the nurse how long it takes for herpes to show, and she said that it takes a cpl of days. she says its highly unlikely that you can go on years without noticing, and that the reason you got it would most likely be from your most recent partner.

my guess from what i have read over the internet: if you think you got "herpes" from ur gf, that means she must have had an outbreak... the bumps popped open and pus came out. I think you get infected from the pus, cuz thats when the virus replicates like crazy and are activated. (not sure?) that is when it is suppose to hurt the most for her, so she should have noticed it, and you should have seen it.

anyways, i'll try to get back to you soon

dammit, kaiser really sucks. its like you have to nag them for them to give you ur health info.

so i finally talked to one of the workers there, and i THINK she said i tested positive for varicella-zoster virus. i couldnt really hear her cuz she talks so freakin soft, but she said something about chicken pox, and i just looked it up online, and i faintly remember her saying "varicella-zoster virus."

anyway, she really scared me because she said "well, it is part of the herpes virus family. u had chicken pox before, so why would u get it again? also, it is around ur rectal area, so it is a good chance it could be herpes."

so why does she have to scare me like that? gosh, what a b*tch. i don't even know how i could have gotten herpes anyways. i seriously cant think of how i could have gotten it, esp near my ASS.

i looked up "varicella-zoster virus " online, and they said something about shingles. you get shingles way after you get chicken pox... so there is hope. a little?

im so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she is going to call me again later.

so the dr told me that it is "shingles"... or he thinks it is.

this is because my test for "varicella-zoster virus" came positive. it is a type of "herpes,"... like chicken pox.

so if you ask them "do i have herpes?" they will say yes, and freak you out. but then it is not HSV2, it is the chicken pox herpes (not std).

i'm going to primary care on monday.

Hi "Jeremy"..... I agree, the topic of your HSV status does not need to be something you disclose too soon in a developing relationship..... get to know each other first....see how it's going and as it progresses, then the HSV issue will naturally need to be revealed.... it's my personal opinion though that before there is any sexual encounter you ought to disclose your HSV status.... I know some will disagree with me on this but, I think it is morally wrong not to disclose first.  This can be a make/break situation for most people but, again, I feel it is simply wrong not to give the other person the whole story since your decision not to disclose could put their health at risk.... that is simply not an option in my opinion.  Looking back to my "pre-HSV" life I most certainly would want my partner to disclose their HSV+ status before intimacy so that I could make my decision as to whether I want to take that risk or not....

Thanks, CHT. I appreciate the feedback. The whole trauma of going through this has led me to figure out a lot about myself and my attachment wounds, so I'm taking courses to come out of this better. This girl really was my dream woman in so many ways, it's been the hardest heartbreak to deal with ever. I'm truly in a lot of pain, but using the pain as fuel to launch that new business and work with coaches. I also opened up to my family about HSV, so my parents and sister know now, and they were very loving and accepting of it. Since opening up about it, I feel way better around this thing. After opening up, I also found out that some mutual friends in our family have discordant couples who are married with children, so HSV hasn't stopped them from living a loving life. The thing is... all of these couples I mention did not disclose until 6-8 months into the relationship. So now I'm thinking it might be better not to disclose until I know things are very serious. I'll of course stay on the medication and use protection, but maybe this is a better route than disclosing upfront and scaring women off.

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.

Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.
