went to the doc yesterday an she is almost positive that its genital herpes. the symptoms are starting to fit. the test wont get back for a week or even longer and its driving me nuts not to know. if that is whats wrong how could i have gotten this? ive only been with 1 guy who is my current bf of over a year. he recently had a blood test which came back normal which means no herpes, so how come i have it then? are there other ways to get it other than by sexual contact? also, ive heard the 1st is the worst am jsut now starting to get blisters i think, and have had symtoms since saturday (its wednesday now) how long is this outbreak going to last? even with numbing gel my doc prescribed its still quite annoying and painful

well what type of test did your bf get? for HSV-2 specifically or just herpes generally? HSV specific blood tests try to detect IgG antibodies. However a test for IgM antibodies is not herpes type specific.

so basically if he came out negative for the IgG test then you know he doesn't have HSV-2 but may have HSV-1. If he came out negative for the IgM test then you know he doesn't have HSV-1 or 2... but few people come out negative for that test since the test so non-specific and the virus is so common.

Many people have mouth herpes, HSV-1, and it's possible that he transfered that to your genitals through oral sex... It's also a possibility (more unlikely) that you have HSV-1 in your mouth and then autoinnoculated your own genitals by accident.

hope this explanation helps!!

Do you shop at Amazon.com? Next time you shop, you can also automatically donate a portion of the proceeds to the Colorado Alphaherpesvirus Latency Society.  This Society organizes the symposium on latency of herpes viruses.  It was here that Keith Jerome announced that he had edited almost 20%-30% of latent HSV in mice last year. (http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/medicalschool/departments/neurology/CALS/Documents/2018 CALS abstracts.pdf) You have to go through smile.amazon.com to set up ongoing donations whenever you shop through smile.amazon.com. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Yes, I understand that I must always start at smile.amazon.com to support Colorado Alphaherpesvirus Latency Society. Why is there a separate URL? The AmazonSmile program offers customers a new benefit, making a donation to your favorite charity. We're able to provide this benefit to you when you choose to start your shopping at smile.amazon.com in part because we expect AmazonSmile to grow primarily through word of mouth instead of paid advertising—and this enables us to fund donations to our customers’ favorite organizations.

WOW, it's true.  So cool!  Thanks for sharing. In my view, for the time being, we can just help support the Colorado Alphaherpesvirus Latency Society, rather than asking Fred Hutch to set something up through Amazon.   Here is an important message though, you have to go through smile.amazon.com to do the donation. According to them:     Yes, I understand that I must always start at smile.amazon.com to support Colorado Alphaherpesvirus Latency Society. Why is there a separate URL?
