Herpes moved to anal site - help!

It would help if I could hear from people who care relate:

I have had some recent outbreaks.. not in my usual genital area, but on the external anus. ! I haven't had a genital outbreak for nearly a year, but twice since then I have had pressure/discomfort in one spot on the anus.. The first time it happened I wondered, "what the...?" Turns out that H has spread to this area. I have been so very careful with hygiene, bathing, toweling, clothing, washing.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

God help that it doesn't appear as cold sores next.. that would really flip me out!

This really sucks...

Don't freak out, I am currently facing the same situation. Yeah, it really sux, but I don't think it is nealy as painful as the usual genital outbreak. I have been using DMSO cream on my genital area as followed by "Never an Outbreak" instruction, but failed to include my butt in the application. Well, I guess the cream really does work because I don't have a single solitary blister/ulcer on my previous outbreak area, but like u am now facing inflamed anus. As to yor meticulous hygiene regimen, I am not sure what to tell you. I know my outbreak is due to having butt sex with my current boyfriend who transmitted it to me. My advice, hang in there, drink plenty of water so you don't dehydrate which can promote harder stool, and maybe try the DMSO cream everywhere.

Actually, I find it more irritating and painful because I have had an outbreak on one of the bum ridges (don't know the proper name!). As with the genital area, it's usually just one blister, but man can it be irritating. I've never heard of DMSO cream. Is it effective? I stopped using meds and creams years ago after the outbreaks settled down.

Never had butt sex, so I don't think that's how mine carried.

Thanks for the info.

i did not know i had it and still not sure but a man i started having sex with came up with it and i trust him when he says he only been with me for a while now. He had a very hard time with it for almost a yr and i never was tested because no symtoms. However i did have anaul pain and one small sore on the small of my back and one on the inner check of my butt. Does it break out there? im really upset i could have done this to him but i cant get tested if no signs. Please advis

I don't have any experience with blisters outside the genital region, so I'm not sure about the one on your butt cheek and back. Were they blisters or something else? Might be shingles, but there's usually more than one sore.

Best bet to go to a doctor and get yourself checked out.

I know it's hard to see your dr, but honestly, he/she probably sees H and stuff all the time. Bite the bullet and take care of your health! You deserve it. When I told my dr she was quite cool about it. In fact, all of hte other doctors I saw were cool, too.

It's hard to hear the truth, but in the end, it's your body.

It's just a blood test.. :)

Hi Periday,

I have also had blisters spread to my butt. They don't appear that often. Thank god! I dunno why they shifted.

You can see your dr. if you need more info. In the meantime, take care of your health.

hey

Yes , as far as the info i have gotten, they can spread to but cheeks, backs etc...

as for testing with no signs, and not wanting to tell your doctor. Just go to a clinic and tell the doctor ( whom is a stranger and you NEVER have to see again) that you may have H but have no outbreaks. They will give you a slip to go to a lab to get a blood test. it takes a couple minutes, they take a small sample of blood and you will be called through the doctor at your clinic, It takes about 2 weeks to get the result for a test done this way, but it is very acurate.

When you say that you don't want to know, and that if he knows then that is all you care about. Well you need to find out for yourself or you will ALWAYS wonder. You will stress yourself needlessly , but once you know your mind can begin to deal with it. and if you have no OB's then lucky you. you will be one of the few who never have an OB but will be aware so you never pass it on again unknowingly.

SMILE....LIFE IS STILL GREAT!!! :D

yes, your right

1st time i have posted on this site...i have had h for about 5 years or so now...i used to experience small outbreaks on the penis only...i also experienced tenderness in the anus region and right thigh...overtime the outbreaks have shifted from the penis to the buttocks region...why? i have no idea, heterosexual, no activity of anykind in that region, just a strangely shifted areas. for a long time i didnt realize that this was an outbreak, just thought an ingrown hair or something of that sort, till i noticed other systems that went along with it...it almost appears like its much harder to treat do to the location...any topical creams or things like that are absorbed by undergarments...have tried the neveranoutbreak product recently with no results...valtrex seems to work well, but it seems like i have a outbreak in the most inopportune times...self employed so cant really afford to purchase prescriptions every month since they run about $160...still experimenting from what i have seen on this site...hang in there and no that your not the only one that is having this problem...

they started by my butt

I'm a heterosexual female and I've never had butt sex. But my very first OB was a sore by my anus! I thought it was a hemorrhoid, which I've never had either, and put Preparation H on it. It was very painful and I had major difficulty wiping, etc. (Sorry for the graphic content)

Anyway, it didn't get better and in a few days had spread to my genital region. When I finally saw a doctor I was tested and diagnosed with herpes.

Every OB after that, it always gets sore at my anus first. Isn't that weird? Any ideas?

Hi all....though slightly graphic....ladies when on our backs, fluid drips out and down..get the picture? So ANY small open cut/hemmoroid/pimple etc coming into contact with contaminated fluids stands a chance of becoming infected. As well, if we have an infected male partner who likes to 'spoon' us when asleep we can end up with lesions on our lower backs or buttocks from shedding coming into contact with an open area from acne/scratches etc. Unfortunatly, all things are possible and it does not require anal intercourse to make it's way there.

in the bum

yeah, unfortunately, I get them around my anal area all the time. The sores go wherever they want to go...sometimes in my anal area, sometimes by my vagina...sometimes both..they have a mind of their own.

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.

Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.

She tested positive for HSV2. No, there was nothing of that sort in that area.   However I also have ulcerative colitis so I’m on medication that makes me immunosuppressed. I have been bleeding a bit when I pass stools during the time of redness, so I’m unsure if I’m getting a flare from the colitis (from all the stress of everything) or if it’s due to the virus making it’s way to an already inflamed area and popping up as blisters that I can’t see and hence the bleeding.    I had two equivocal results (at 4 weeks and 6 weeks) that then went to a positive result (7 weeks after exposure). Combine that with some flu symptoms, redness, tingling etc. makes me feel it’s conclusive that this points to a hsv2 infection.
