Time to rally the troops- some potential cures to watch for

Hi

Im 21, newly diagnosed and far from ready to give in and try and re-arrange my life around this little "nuisance" of a virus!! From what ive read, there is some great potential breakthroughs on the horizon to help our bodies kick some HSV-ass. WHile these things wont hit the shelves any time soon, im hoping and praying that they will be available in time for me to "regain" my youth while im still young enough to enjoy it fully! Ive read old postings similar to this, from years past, where people have pooled info about CREDIBLE research and product pipelines...I want to start that again...i figured this forum would get the most enthusiastic response to this proposal. Im fully prepared to go to the source of info, the companies themselves, to get the most up-to-date info possible....not 2 month old postings on obscure headlines...I hope there are others here just as determined and optimistic as I am! First thing is to share what we have heard so far and proceed from there...

In terms of treatment...

AURX (www.aurx.com): received a lot of hype on a few HSV sites, but that has dropped off due to lack of news from the company...while the treatment looked promising, it seems that the project is toast...im going to call the company on Monday to see what they have decided...until then, has anyone heard anything that could shed some light??

CYTOGENIX (www.cytogenix.com): sent out an email stating that animal toxicology testing is complete, ive also heard rumors that they are starting phase 1 human trials in India and China...again, i am planning on contacting the company directly for the latest info, but anything that anyone else knows, as a matter of fact, would be appreciated!

ANTIGENICS (www.antigenics.com): Tested a vaccine a couple of years ago called AG-702, has revamped the project with something called AG-707...ive heard rumors that they will do phase 2 testing, Westover Heights clinic is said to be involved...again, more info is what we need!

HERPEVAC (www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct/gui/show/NCT00057330): A vaccine only for women, with neither HSV1 or HSV2 infection, said to be 74% effective, in phase 3 of trials...as it stands, not much hope to those of us already affected, but maybe could give some protection to loved ones!

MICROBICIDES: anti-viral topical cream, which is designed to make sex safer by killing viruses at skin level, it is applied before sex for temporary protection. Ive read that the Canadian Government has given a University in Quebec funding to continue research...I havent been able to track down any more up-to-date info on this, but apparently a few companies are taking a crack at this technology.

This is all of the research that ive heard/read about...If anyone has heard about any overseas or US research, even by smaller companies, please post...we live in a global village, and i for one am not opposed to a European vacation to go along with supressing this virus inside of me!!!

Keep this post alive, if we keep ourselves informed, we can make an impact!! I encourage others to call these companies as well and do their own research, so that we can stay on top of new developments!!

2 Updates

Antigenics sent me an email, giving me the # to their customer relations line for more info on AG-70X...for anyone else who is interested in speaking with them, the # is 1-866-805-8994....Anyone who speaks with them, please post and let us know about what they learned!! ...keep this thread alive!! I cant do this all by myself, i need help from others truly set on beating this virus to help collect info (Cain, Richard...etc)...please, everyone...do your part!!

A small update from Cytogenix CEO, Dr Skolnick...in an interview with Wallstreet Reporter(http://www.wallstreetreporter.com/profiles/CytoGenix.html)..Dr Skolnick makes reference to the topical herpes cream as something that will potentially halt herpes lesions or prevent shedding...he also is optimistic about getting the companies first product(s) to consumers within 5 years!!...The interview is informative, worth a listen!

more info.

this was on the cytogenix website:

CYGX0301 Anti-viral compound against herpes simplex (HSV), preclinical phase

CytoGenix scientists have discovered sequences against genes in Herpes Simplex 1 and 2, that are necessary for viral reproduction or which protect the virus from a host's immune system. CytoGenix has developed a topical cream containing the company's proprietary expression vector technology with sequences against these HSV genes. The topical cream will deliver the DNA expression vector to virus infected epithelial cells where the vector will generate ODN's that will cancel the virus' reproductive capability and strip its ability to migrate to nerve cells.

In vitro (cell) studies have shown a hundred-fold decrease in the viral load. Toxicology testing is underway and is scheduled to be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2004.

The company has already completed toxicology testing on animals, actually. They are now getting organized to to file an IND application with the FDA and hopefully soon after, start phase 1 trials in the US....ive read that they have entered an agreement with a company called Phanual Pursuits in India, to test the product there too, this might lead to fast-track approval of the product...keep the info coming!!!

Cytogenix update

Ok folks

Quick update on cytogenix...i received an email back regarding Cytogenix activities in Asia. Dr. Skolnick, CEO of the company, responded by telling me that the project is still a go over there and they are "...maintaining our relationship with Phanuel Pursuits, Ltd., the company pursuing regulatory approval in India and China". So far this seems to be good news all around! Thats all for now...again, some input or new info from others is greatly appreciated!!

keep aurx hope alive

Aurx CEO Gary Carlton responded to an email of mine, telling me that they are still actively pursuing investors but time is running out! I suppose all we can do is hope and pray something comes through for them, unless someone reading this is a bigtime investment banker:P!!...Ill keep updating as information becomes available to me...check out their website if you are unfamiliar with them....www.aurx.com

Keep the posts coming!

Has anyone called antigenics to learn about their new vaccine, entering Phase 1 trials in the Seattle area? If you are interested in calling them for info, the # is posted above...make sure to post what you learn!!

what?

Lately I have grown weary of corporate arrogance, and the innability for consumers to trust any entity besides the FDA. Please read all my posts (TKS) and reap the benefits of a practically free herpes existence. It may seem insignificant to you that a regular joe perhaps accidentally bumped into the greatest relief of all time for this perplexing social dilemma. Please give it a try...You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

CREDIBLE proven treatments only

I agree TKS, the big pharmaceuticals arent looking out for you and me...BUT, they are the only ones who are able to do the widescale studies necessary to truely prove if something works for everyone (or at least most) and on what level it works (symptoms, shedding etc). Your treatments may bring relief to you physically, but what about the shedding factor? For me, this virus causes BARELY noticeable physical symptoms, in that light my worry is not for myself, it is for those who i might infect. That is why im more interested in something clinically proven and reviewed to work...not word of mouth, anecdotal evidence. Your "treatments" may have merit, but unless you can prove that they truely get to the nature of this problem, then they have no place on this thread. Herpes, without the possibility of tranmission to others, is simply no more than an annoyance...eliminate the transmission and you eliminate the fear and stigma that comes with it!!

i was reading this post and i really liked the idea of it.

paranoid~i dont know if u still feel this way, but i do. u posted to something else i wrote. im the same way though, with barely noticable physically symptoms, im just scared to death that i may pass it.

i emailed aurx like a week ago or so, and it seems like thats not gonna work...the guy, gary whoever, basically asked me if i knew a millionaire! cuz he said they need 7 million dollars in funding...i believe some of this stuff is just used to suck money outta people...especially suppressive treatments...if there was something to come about that would stop transmission...that would be the best news...have u heard any new info on any treatments lately? i also read about the company powermed...but im not sure what all that is for. ill have to check it out more.

I am currently taking Everclr and I haven't had an outbreak since my first initial outbreak that occured about a year ago. So I guess you could say Everclr is working for me, but on the down side I have heard some bad things about it and a couple of people on this forum have said that it didn't work for them. But since I haven't had another outbreak and I have paid $250.00 for it, I'm going to continue to use it since for whatever reason it seems to be working for me. It could be a "mind over matter" situation with me, but I don't really care as long as it works. :)

To take any mystique about everclr it contains these herbs: Burdock root, Ashwanganda root, Echinacea Ang. root, Echinacea Pur. root, Hydrangea root, Ginger Extract, Elderberry Extract, Astragalus, and Goldenseal.

You can easily attain any of them over the internet and make your own formula if you want and it might be cheaper.

The echinacea, elderberry, astragalus, and goldenseal are immune stimulating herbs. Burdock root detoxifies the blood, liver, and skin. Ashwanganda root, is also know as Indian ginseng is used to help the body adapt to physiological and psychological stress.

Sounds like a good mixture, but seems a little overpriced to me.

Yeah Right

I have some magic beans to sell too...maybe u could add them to this "miracle cure" and make some kind of soup:P....This thread wasnt meant for word of mouth stuff that you can buy off the internet...it was meant for CREDIBLE advancements in medicine....if you want to sell your snake oil, start your own thread!!

....

Why am I a dick? Because I am saying that this "root treatment" hasnt been proven beyond the "testimonials" of others....How well does it work to prevent shedding? What are the side-effects? How often does it have to be taken? Of course none of this can be proven, as it was never tested clinically....so basically you are advising people to take something that is potentially harmful, probably wont prevent shedding and any reduction in symptoms might even happen IN SPITE of taking it???.....Who knows, maybe it might work for some....but will it work on the next person you infect while taking it??

...

I wasnt challenging you on this product...i was challenging the product itself....you are the one who came back with the "dick" comment...theres no point in arguing it further anyways...the point i was trying to make is that this was set up for news about real clinical trials...this everclr doesnt fall into this category...

Don't fall for the "Cure" postings. Most people are under false impressions that they have been cured. Also its about making money from you. Trust me they (Big Business) don't want to find a cure because there is no money in it. I think the last thing that was ever cured in my lifetime was Polio. What they really want to do is manage your illness etc. Trust me there is big money in that!

Reinvigorate

I think we should reinvigorate this thread, see whats good and new for 2008? If everyone can contribute something new, that would be nice. My contribution, Lomatium.

Nice link, its promising no doubt. I have a general question, with all the new, potential vaccines/semi-cures/therapy/etc, how long do you guys think it will be before there is a Legitimate vaccines and/or treatment to end viral shredding?

my guess, 2-5 years.

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.
    • WilsoInAus
Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.

She tested positive for HSV2. No, there was nothing of that sort in that area.   However I also have ulcerative colitis so I’m on medication that makes me immunosuppressed. I have been bleeding a bit when I pass stools during the time of redness, so I’m unsure if I’m getting a flare from the colitis (from all the stress of everything) or if it’s due to the virus making it’s way to an already inflamed area and popping up as blisters that I can’t see and hence the bleeding.    I had two equivocal results (at 4 weeks and 6 weeks) that then went to a positive result (7 weeks after exposure). Combine that with some flu symptoms, redness, tingling etc. makes me feel it’s conclusive that this points to a hsv2 infection.
