So Im really distressed about having herpes. I have been having cold sores on my lips since I was a young child and since I have become sexually active in the past several months I have had the sores on my genitals as well. I am scared because although I did tell my partner about my first genital outbreak, today after having protected sex I noticed a single lesion on my genitals. I feel maad irresponsible for letting that happen without even knowing of the lesion and its even worse because I have had sex a few days ago for the first time in a while. I dont feel in control of my own body but I really want to do the right thing for my girlfriend so I think we should just not have direct sexual contact for a while. Even in doing this I feel like I may have already passed on the virus through direct contant even if I was wearing a jimmy hat when I entered her. Should I tell her that she needs to get tested? Is this something I should feel this guilty about? Do you think she would forgive me if I did infect her? PLEASE HELP ME

Using protection was the right thing. Telling her about your first genital outbreak was the right thing. No one can tell you whether you passed it. If she already knows that you had one outbreak it may be easier to tell her you had an unexpected episode. For the future you just have to keep yourself very clean and be very mindful of what is going on down there.
