Could I have gotten HSV-1 on my genitals?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've had Cold Sores since as long as I can remember, probably during Elementary School or beginning of Middle School. So I know what to do. I use my own towel (which I don't use to dry my cold sore, I use toilet paper to dry it) I use my own cup to rinse my mouth in after I brush my teeth. When I wash my cold sore I use warm water with soap (I use my fingers, its on the bottom left side of my lips as it always has) then I apply Campho-Phenique with my fingers then wash my hands with warm water and soap.

Here is my main concern is that. Usually when I do have a Cold Sore, I don't watch porn. I try to stay away from it, but yesterday I kind of failed and end up watching it. I washed my hands like about 3 times. But I can't help that I got it on my genitals. It doesn't make sense in my mind and I also have OCD which is joining to make it worse. It reason why it doesn't make sense to me is: 1) If I touched like half an inch to inch away from the Cold Sore I'd go wash my hands 2) If I touched my chin I'd wash my hands 3) If I touched my upper lip I'd wash my hands 4) If I touch the bottom part of my nose I'd wash my hands. 5) If I barely touched I'd wash my hands. Yeah I know I sound pretty cautious. The other reason is that I'm afraid that I might "touched" my cold sore then touch my computer and/or my mouse, or the doorknob. Now I'm feeling itchy down there but it goes away fast, maybe my mind is doing this? I kind of freak'd out last night. You think I'm overreacting? I don't know it just doesn't make sense to me. Please respond back?

I think you are over reacting

You seem to take all the appropriate measures to help prevent the spreading of your cold sores. Also, since you have had this several years your body has built up antibodies that will help prevent you spreading it to other areas of your body.

Good luck!

JB

Thanks I had a feeling I was over reacting... I hope I don't get a freak out again... last night I had another freak out that I'd get cold sores on my feet because the water I use to rinse my mouth dripped water on my feet so yeah...

if you have had oral hsv-1 for over a year its unlikely you will spread it anywhere else on your body

I had my first outbreak in June, very close to the date of your post. I healed up before the end of the month and it was about as many as you mentioned. I have gHSV1. The test was done on the left under the head of my penis because I had mostly healed by the time I made it to the doctor. There has been pain ever since in that one spot, but there hasn’t been any outbreaks. There are visible red spots that seem to linger forever. I’m a little concerned about this. Overall I’m lu it it is bite type 2 and I am doing my best to manage it. I hope you are doing well also since June. My wife and I (who I think I got it from) use condoms to prevent her from contracting it genitally. It’s a much more serious problem for women than men, as it can be internal for them and affect childbirth. Condoms are critical until a cure comes around, and there looks to be promising research. Hope you are well.

I have been suffering from nerve pain after my first outbreak in June. Today I tried a charlotte’s web salve product and it took the pain away. I wouldn’t use it during an active outbreak though for risk of spreading it.

Unfortunately that is the most common place men get infected!

They are not the yardstick that you measure your worth with! It also tells you something about each and every one of them! To the ones you treated you well before I would personally talk to them and see if that was actually what he said to them? Maybe he said something different?

I just disclosed to a man who works in the medical field and he didn't make a big deal at all. He shared his sti results w me I didn't see HSV1 on the test report, so I asked him about it and that opened up the discussion. The discussion of it was maybe 2 sentences tops. That was reassuring. We've since had sex and there was no hesitation or weirdness. So I recommend dating people w medical knowledge
