I finally got a positive on my herpes test...but it is a little confusing! I contracted the virus in June and didn't get a positive until September!

The swab test said I have HSV1 and the blood test said I have HSV2...so which one would it be?! Do I have both?! Considering my blood test ONLY tested positive for HSV2 and my swab test ONLY tested positive for HSV1!

If I were you, i'd get ahold of those results. The blood test will tell you about an infection that's at least 3 months old, and for some people it takes even longer to convert. The swab test should be the most accurate, but it will only tell you what you have in that exact spot. So for example, if your swab test was oral, it's possible you have HSV-2 genitally and a new case of HSV-1 orally. Make sense?

I'd recommend you get a copy of the test results (are you SURE they tested your blood for HSV-1?? Most doctors don't want to, so BE SURE), and verify that it says what you think it says. Then get tested again in a month or so, or the next time you see an outbreak. Swab tests are usually more accurate, but if you have both types a blood test is a great way to confirm. It's possible you just haven't seroconverted yet.
