Help! Constant Oral HSV-2 Outbreaks

Recommended Posts

MissPandora

Hey guys,

I have had this virus since the end of August, and I have had constant oral outbreaks all over my face since then. Talk about a nightmare!! I get about 4-6 coldsores at a time, and even when they clear up, the scars are still there. And then a week or 2 later, I break out again. It usually flares up most right before my period. Genitally, this virus has been so mild for me, even though those outbreaks are still about once a month. I need help, y'all. I need to get on Valtrex daily, but I don't have health insurance or a GP. Here are my questions:

Will Planned Parenthood prescribe Valtrex?

How much does Valtrex cost without health insurance?

What alternative treatments am I missing besides Lysine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Planned Parenthood will prescribe acyclovir for GH, not oral. But, if you have GH as well then they should prescribe for free. If you have oral Herpes only the cost is about $30 a month at Planned Parenthood.

Walmart has Acyclovir for $4 per prescription

Find a doctor who will prescribe that for you. Others including Kroger and Costco I believe have it really cheap too.

I take Lysine daily and highly recommend it. Someone also told me about kelp extract and from what I have read it too would help prevent outbreaks.

Good luck!

JB

I feel you pain! I've had this crap for over a year now and have constant outbreaks ever week down below and on my face. I usually get hit with a dozen or more blisters around my nose, face and forehead & in the groin area! Don't waste your money on Valtrex, it worthless!! I take 3000 or more milligrams a day plus 3-4000 mg of Lysine and still constant breakouts. I've tried almost everything on here listed by others and still no luck! Life sucks:madd:

I have constant OBs as well. Like you, riptide969, I've tried just about everything, including all three antivirals, and I'm not kicking this thing to the curb. I'm a pretty strong person, but even I have my limit of what I can deal with after a while. Persevere we must, I guess.

There are currently two Phase 2 clinical trials of the effect of valacyclovir (i.e. Valtrex) at the NIH and University Hospital in Umeå, Sweden respectively for the sole purpose of measuring the impact to Alzheimers of taking Valacyclovir in HSV1+ individuals. Anti-viral Therapy in Alzheimer's Disease https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03282916?recrs=ad&cond=Herpes+Simplex&rank=10 Feasibility and Effects of Valaciclovir Treatment in Persons With Early Alzheimer's Disease (VALZ-Pilot) https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02997982?recrs=ad&cond=Herpes+Simplex&draw=2&rank=11 We should have some compelling evidence by about this time next year as the Swedish study has been going since 2016 and is set to conclude in April of next year.  The NIH study is set to conclude in 2022 but either way, on simply the mounting causal evidence, I'm going to continue taking my antivirals.

It still sucks for those of us in our 40's. Granted you will have to deal with it a lot longer than I, but it still sucks.
