Saw an ex last night...

I feel like telling this story over and over for some reason, but i don't have anywhere else to tell it. Maybe some of you will appreciate this.

The first guy i dated after finding out i had H was this cute, random chance meeting. He was really nice and we got along well, but he had just gotten out of a relationship and didn't want anything serious, and i've got a 5 year old and a 10-year plan and i wasn't into casual or booty calls. He was my first ever "talk" and he took it really well. Anyway, things fizzled out cause he decided it was more fun to go drinking and stand me up than actually talk to me. Whatevs.

I saw him last night at a book store. Actually, my daughter saw him first. I was talking to the sales guy and she kept pulling on me. Finally i turned around to see what she needed, and there he was. I know i looked like crap, with my hair all messy and bags under my eyes, but he was in the SAME work clothes he wore 2 years ago. He'd changed his hair, i don't know if it was shorter or longer, but he still had those INCREDIBLE blue eyes. They should really be immortalized in a movie somewhere (although he'd never show up to filming!).

We chatted, i asked about his nieces, blah blah blah. Then he caught sight of my wedding band, and didn't even finish his goodbye sentence before his back was turned to me and he was walking away! Not that i expect less of him, but it actually kinda made me feel good - like i said "See what you missed?" without saying anything or even meaning to. No matter what problems I may have had, his were bigger and caused him to miss out on a fabulous thing. So, his loss! :)

I just had to share. Thanks!

Ah, story of my life. Although I think it's far more likely that they don't want anything serious....with ME. You give hope to all of us.

I agree your post was very well written. I think I was speaking from more of a GHSV1 perspective as it relates to the oral virus so many carry and spread.   I too, before being diagnosed, was small minded and ignorat about herpes. But I believe it had to do with the way I was brought up. Looking back now I want to say it was because of my experience in college. I went to ASU, we are absolutely known for partying and STI’s. I was heavily involved in Greek life, and bascially if one person found out you had herpes your life was changed  socially and romantically. You were the girl/ guy on campus with herpes. A bunch of little 18-22 year old shits who didn’t give a flying F if you said HSV1 or HSV2. It was herpes. That’s all they were known for. Surrounding schools found out and people from your hometown found out. Maybe my generation sucks but that’s extremely sickening to witness and go through.  I now work in marketing with a bunch of people my age and older. There is a guy who disclosed and was open about herpes to a lot of us in the office and again, he was just known as the herpes guy. And no, not by me but grown adults with real jobs and education. Most likely those adults statistically had some strain of it too. But again these are my experiences. I know they are wrong now but who knows when the rest of the world will catch up.

Some more good news on crispr! Restoring cells to an uninfected state once a virus is destroyed. https://phys.org/news/2018-09-cells-uninfected-state-virus.amp Now if only they could remove this virus from each of us and fix the effective cells would be no longer a dream!

But don’t you have an oral HSV-1 infection? Condoms don’t protect against that?

Give it a try and report back to us. It's pretty safe vaccine approved by the FDA.
