Hi Aje,

I'm sorry you're going through this! I can tell you that one of my best friends contracted genital hsv1 19 years into her relationship with her husband. It's commonly transmitted via oral sex. For some reason you can do the same things for years and then the virus decides when the time is right to transmit. This seems kind of crazy, but you're not alone.

There are links to the right of the forum page that have lots of great information on hsv and how to manage it.

Welcome to the forum!!

Hi Aje--I was diagnosed in January of this year so I completely understand how you feel. I'm still new to this too.

However, I can tell you, once my initial outbreak was over, I felt much better about things and was not so upset by it.

It doesn't mean your husband cheated. My bf who gave it to me apparently had it his whole life and never knew it. I believe him. When I had my initial outbreak, I wasn't concerned he cheated, but I thought he may have known and not told me. Based on how he acted when I told him, I believe him that he had no idea. He was in a state of shock and panic and cried with me for days. He went to get tested and his antibodies were so high that his doctor said he probably got it as a child, maybe from a kiss from a grandmother who happened to have a cold sore or was asymptomatically shedding at the time.

This is what was happening to him when (at the risk of giving too much information on here, but, that is what this forum is for, for all of us to help each other, and information helps!) he gave me oral sex and I ended up getting it genitally.

I'm just telling you this because it does not necessarily mean your husband cheated. It's all so new to both of you right now and you just need to educate yourselves, talk to your doctor, and be honest and ask questions and tell them the information they ask for.

You will get through this. I am getting through it with friends and I am religious so praying and talking to my minister has really helped me. Hang in there---have an open mind to educating yourselves about this and you'll be fine.

I contracted GHSV 1 from my husband in March, after 28 years of marriage. We have a great marriage and always have. We took him to be tested and he showed up positive as an old infection. He has never, ever had any kind of sore or outbreak of any kind. I don't know why it took 28 years, but it did. Mine showed up as a new infection and my my Dr. told me I had to have had an affair but I know I didn't. No other man has touched me for 28 years. Dr.'s don't know everything about herpes, as I've found out.

Hi and welcome aboard!

I found out in October of last year that I have GH. I was in complete shock and devastated. It had been dormant for over 20 yrs. I am married and had to tell my husband who was as shocked as I was. You will have good days and bad days but overall it does get better. This is a wonderful site full of information and wonderful people that are dealing with the same thing.

Take care.

Thanks to all of you for all the support. Can someone tell me if in the blood test does that determine what type of herpes u have and does it determine how long you have had it and how do u know who is the carrier?
