How do you afford Valtrex?

For those of you who do not have health insurance or benefits, how do you afford daily suppressive therapy with Valtrex?

I am spending $122 every 15 days....this is making me completely poor!

I'm in Canada, BTW.

Hi Whirlygirl :)

I've just learned I've contracted Herpes and trying to deal with it emotionally. I too am in Alberta.

I have not yet got a precription from the doctor yet,or I should say just for some topical Acyclovir, not for pills like valtrek

Holy crap...that's $$$$$$$

Best wishes for a painless /outbreakless/ life

Most people that don't have insurance and can't afford Valtrex usually go with Acyclovir for suppression which is MUCH cheaper.

Hang in there,

Angela :D

I live in the US and I have been able to get free Valtrex from the company. Its a program called Bridges to Access. Their phone # is 866-728-4368 and the website is bridgestoaccess.gsk.com What you need is an "advocate", a doctor to write the scripts and communicate with Glakso Smith Kline. It goes by your income. Call them and see if you can get on. I have been doing this for 6 months now and the Valtrex comes via mail from Walgreens. I hope it works for you.

Also, try going to Planned Parenthood for Acylovir (sp...I am typing fast). I paid about $22 bucks through them for a big ole bottle of it. I keep it on hand just in case I have an OB to help lessen it (the pain and length of time). Otherwise, the only thing I do is take Lysine. This stuff has been a miracle for me. I think my immune system is pretty kick ass, so the only missing ingredient for me was the lysine. I was having really super bad OB's for a while there, and now for the past few months (knock on wood) I haven't. If I feel that "tingling sensation' down there, I take a higher dosage of lysine and it seems to just kick the crap out of the ole Herpes Virus! God, I love vitamins!

yeah, I have thought of that too...is it merely coincidental? A placebo effect? Psychosomatic? Who knows for sure....BUT it is too coincidental for me, in that as soon as I stopped taking it, I had the worst outbreak of my life. (I ran out of vitamins and just casually thought, eh, no big deal, I am taking prenatals vitamins, that is all I need...HAH!) and i didn't take them for most of my pregnancy as well as 7months after the baby was born.

A few months back, I was so sick of having an outbreak every single month that I decided to try vitamins again. So far, so good. So we shall see. Even if it is just mind over matter, placebo effect, whatever, I don't care. It is working. The mind and our immune systems are powerful tools....I have no problem "enhacing them" with vitamins, or food, or diet. whatever it takes! :D

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
