Just out of curiosity... For those of you who have found a supportive partner that doesnt have the virus. My question is using suppressive therapy, condoms and no sex during OB's how long have you been able to keep them virus free?

Two years...

It was almost two years that my husband remained herpes free from the time we got back together (high school sweethearts reunited after 20 years) to the time he actually contracted it.

We chose not to use condoms, suppressive therapy (other than during highly stressful times for me) and we didn't have sex during outbreaks.

I've just begun a thread over on my STD's for Dummies hoping to get others who have experiences and words of wisdom on this very topic to share them with others.

I've been married 9 years, and she's still clean. And that's after two kids, and one lost pregnancy (not to mention the torment of getting pregnant; yeah, there is too much of a good thing sometimes).

BTW, I take NO supressants, and for that matter, we don't do anything to protect her other than abstinance during OB's (and I'm very conservative over calling my self healed)

My Experience with Herpes

My husband and I dated 3 years and have been married 14 years. I have successfully avoided giving him herpes until recently. In fact, my herpes had been in remission for 10 years until 2 months ago. I believe the outbreak came after receiving some upsetting news about surgery. I went through some serious soul searching.

During this first OB in over 10 years, I experienced some sores. I guess I never knew what hit me, because during the first few days of being infected, I gave my husband the virus.

Now, in the past few weeks, I've developed Post Herptic Neuralgia (painful nerve endings) which is like being in the Prodrome stage of herpes continuously. My skin is itchy, tingling constantly. It's worse than having sores...I am constantly reminded of this thing.

While I am openly optomistic about becoming OB free, my husband is very upset. In fact, he does not want to talk about it. I am getting seriously depressed which I know doesn't help. We have had sex with condoms once since he found out and to be honest, it was really lousy. I hate to say this, but I am happier at work and I dread the weekends. I hope this is temporary for him. I really love him.
