hi & welcome to the group fattypatty

Just wondering exactly what you meant with your question, "How long does this sit in your body"? Do you mean how long before you get OB's or how long until you don't have it any more?

The answer to how long before you get OB's maybe more or less as soon as you're exposed or maybe never? Some people are asymptomatic.

In answer to the other question, when will you not have it any more? Unless they find a cure...........you will have it forever, it's permanent, at least for now.

I hope I've answered your question? hugs xx

To my knowledge, NEVER had a syptom or an outbreak ever. And I am rather hypochondriac and very aware. in 2 long term relationships in the last 10 years only. The nurse who called me said it can sit dormant for 10 years???

Hi fattypatty,

I was just diagnosed last week, and I was totally shocked. I have never had any symptoms, and the only reason I went to get a blood test was because I found out that my ex-boyfriend had not been honest with me about some of his sexual experiences. The thing with herpes is that people can have the virus and never know-that's why it is so easily passed from person to person without either partner knowing that he/she has it. When you first got your test in 2007, how long had it been since you had been with your finace, and what type of test did you have? Is there anyone else you have been with that could get tested now? Another thing about herpes is that it is very hard to figure out "who gave it to who." I wanted so badly to blame the ex-boyfriend who hurt me so badly, but I could have had it before him, or even after. I've just had to make peace with the fact that I have it, I have to deal with it, and I may never know how I got it.

I hope that I have answered some of your questions and have helped you in some way. It's so hard to be diagnosed, and how unfortunate is it that you have to even be thinking of a cheating ex-fiance at a time when you need comfort, love, and answers! Reach out to the people who love you the most, and you will find that you are definitely not alone. Good luck! :)

Thank you Sunshine. Just had a consult with my doc. He was very re-assuring, indicated that this stuff can be beaten down by our immune system for 20 years and then get hold. I had an extremely stressful year, so I assume that is how it surfaced. I have made my phone calls to who needed to know....not many mind you and the doc put me on the viral suppressant for 10 days to be proactive. He reminded me that these things aren't lethal and knowing about the HPV now allows more surveillance on the cervical cancer. Just have to heal mind, body, soul and spirit I guess. My support system is good....women friends are priceless.

Fattypatty & Sunshine2you:

Am I correct in assuming you two were positive for HSV II? I always urge people, especially w/ no symptoms, to confirm their diagnosis... If your IgG was less than 5.0, get it confirmed w/ a Biokit or Western Blot. I'm not trying to give false hope but I've read hundreds of accounts in which people went years thinking they had it when they didn't.

Fattypatty, I totally agree that women friends are priceless! I have found that everyone on this site (men, too) have been so wonderful and supportive. 1DayAtATime, my HSV II IGg score was 3.06. I know this means I obviously have anitbodies, and my doctor didn't suggest any further testing....I think I might do some investigating. Thanks for the advice. :)

Hi @CathM if you received oral sex in the days before the sores first appeared then it is important to be sure of type - culture tests do not type. Ask to see your result and see what it says. Is your partner going to test? This is also helpful.

Hello@WilsoInAus I only know that they took a swab and then I was notified that I was positive for HSV 2. I don’t know have any knowledge about whether it was a culture test?

Hi @CathM and welcome to the website. Yes there is little doubt you were infected by this new partner. This would have happened 2-10 days before the sores appeared. There is one question to settle quickly. Was your swab test a PCR with a result of HSV-2 detected. Or was it a culture test?

Hello. Just been diagnosed with HSV2 after a swab test. Absolutely devastated at the diagnosis. Had symptoms after sleeping with my new partner. Symptoms started about 6 weeks after our first encounter. Did I get it from him? We split just before the diagnosis. I feel like my life is over, please help 😥
