Hi im new in here and ive had herpes on my lip since i was a child :( but as i grew older ive learnednyou can get in in your genitals i do not have it but as any herpes carrier i am worried and concerned, i currently have a breakout and am on a acyclovir type medicine i strongly urge people to get some if if you dont have a breakout you should keep some on hand. what i really came here to ask was if you shower and possibly touch your cold sore then your private area can you get it there? if anyone could answer that will be great also, i would love to join a support group! thanks!

Hi gab and welcome. It's possible yes because you are touching an infected area of skin to an uninfected area, so just practice good hygiene and you will be fine.

Yes it can be spread that way. I was just diagnosed with herpes virus 1 on my genitals a few days ago and because I didn't know that's what it was, I didn't have blisters or anything at the time, I then got it on my hand. And those were blisters. So just be careful what you touch and wash your hands a lot. Washing your hands/other skin areas with antibacterial is your best option of not spreading it.

But most importantly, just try not to stress out about this, you know? Cause in the large scheme of things, this is just a small setback.

thanks guys!! i appreciate the advice! cuz i didnt know weather the virus would still be on the hand even if the water rinses it, and i have been with my boyfrind for 1 year on the 12th and i just told him and i am happy to say he still loves me and thinks nothing of it! i was scared if i told him at the beginning that he would think thats nasty and leave me but phew i was wrong and glad i was =) i had to share that, it was a big step for me!
