have you tried warm baths with epsom salts? or some say ice or aloe vera? try not to wear pants that would hurt, like jeans, try sweatpants as often as possible. and try not to sleep on your back. good luck :)

I am in the middle of my first outbreak in 5 years, and it is also primarily on my butt and the back of my legs. I also have the a lot of pain/itching in my groin. It really sucks having it in this area because like you said, it hurts to sit and walk. I have taken a few epsom salt baths that were soothing. But believe it or not, the first thing to really help has been Purell. I read a thread about it on here and did not believe it would work, but I applied it all over my sores last night and it was the first full night sleep I have gotten in a week. Burns like HELL when you put it on for about 10 seconds, then soothing relief. I am not sure why it works, but it definitely works for me.

Here is a link to the thread that convinced me to give it a try:

http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/messageforum/showthread.php?2909-Try-Purell.

Be warned though, if the sores are open it will burn/sting worse than anything you have ever felt for a good 10 seconds. But the relief I got after the burn, and more importantly the good night sleep, is well worth the pain in my opinion.

Good luck, keep us posted.

I Googled "Purell on herpes" and it returned that thread! The powers of the Internet :). Ugh that sounds scary. My sleep hasn't been too affected (and I'm in my first OB, so I know it should get easier), but I do like the idea of trying other remedies (as long as it's not too crazy)!

Well I was pretty desperate, so I was willing to try anything. The itching specifically was making it impossible for me to sleep, and not getting enough sleep just makes the outbreak last longer. So it was a double-edge sword. I was highly skeptical about it, but figured it's so cheap that if it didn't work then it wouldn't be much of a loss. Through all my research I still can't figure out why it works, but I am so very happy that it does.
