New and still trying to get my head around it all

Hi everyone. Well, obviously the bad news is I was diagnosed last week with genital herpes; the good news is that the outbreak is almost over. What a miserable 8 days that was! Currently I am on a 10 day regimen of Valtrex.

I don't think it's all sunk in yet. Fortunately I currently have a great boyfriend who is totally supportive of this. He has had zero symptoms of any kind, though he is getting tested next week. The fact that I am 41 and this is happening now is a bit of a shocker. Prior to this relationship I was married 12 years and had no problems/ex did not show symptoms. All previously relationships I cannot recall any warning signs so I have no idea where this came from. A conundrum, for sure!

I look forward to reading through the material on this site, getting educated on this illness, and reading the comments. It's good to know I'm not alone. Thanks in advance.

Hello, Im 42 and been married 22 years. I was diagnosed 5 yrs ago. Shocker ?! Yes! But, at least its manageable. This site is full of good information and even google stuff. I gotta go, have a steak to put on the barbie...would love to pass on what I have expereinced. Later.

I can attest to the laying dormant comment. I had my first OB 7 years ago, and a few minor OBs for about 2 years. Then I went 5 years without an OB until this one I am currently going through. It sucks to get that false sense of confidence only to have it pop back up again out of the blue.

I will agree that this site has been VERY helpful though. Since coming here, I know the steps I can take moving forward to prevent OBs like this in the future. Or at the very least, ensure that any further outbreaks are nowhere near as bad as this one.

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
