hi

i'm newly diagnoised and finding myself up and down like a rollercoaster, have loads of questions rolling around in my head but while most are my own personal selfish ones that i need to work out for myself, i have some that i truly hope you might be able to help me with.

have herpes 1 genitally bf had a same day results test and got a negative, possib that i contracted it from oral herp 1 should this still show in blood test if he has oral h1?

secondly does anyone know how reliable the same day result tests are?

i was diagnoised through swab culture is there any point in getting a std test too?

would really appreciate your answers,

cailin

Hi Calin, You absolutely could have gotten GHSV1 from oral. If your bf got the same day results test (biokit), that only tests for hsv2, not 1. HSV1 would show on a blood test though. The same day results are reliable (92%) I think, but again, only for HSV2. Your swab culture is very reliable. I would say go get the full std panel just for ease of mind for yourself. I hope you are feeling better physically and emotionally. This whole thing IS a roller coaster.

The swab test is tricky. I should have specified. Swab when positive, is for sure positive. Swap when negative, it's a flip of the coin if indeed you are negative. Negative swab- go get blood tests also. Did you get blood drawn?

No I did not do a blood test yet, I made an appointment for wednesday

next week. Although I had all symptoms there are still some things shady.

1. My dad has shingles at the moment

2. It took 1,5 week to get the test results, when I called after 1,5 week the doc

told me that he would call the lab. Then I got a phone later where they say I

was positive for hsv 2, but I never saw any results.

Hi @CathM if you received oral sex in the days before the sores first appeared then it is important to be sure of type - culture tests do not type. Ask to see your result and see what it says. Is your partner going to test? This is also helpful.

Hello@WilsoInAus I only know that they took a swab and then I was notified that I was positive for HSV 2. I don’t know have any knowledge about whether it was a culture test?

Hi @CathM and welcome to the website. Yes there is little doubt you were infected by this new partner. This would have happened 2-10 days before the sores appeared. There is one question to settle quickly. Was your swab test a PCR with a result of HSV-2 detected. Or was it a culture test?

Hello. Just been diagnosed with HSV2 after a swab test. Absolutely devastated at the diagnosis. Had symptoms after sleeping with my new partner. Symptoms started about 6 weeks after our first encounter. Did I get it from him? We split just before the diagnosis. I feel like my life is over, please help 😥
