Newly acurately diagnosed longtime carrier

Good morning,

The name Thetwoofus includes the wife and I. She has had this for 15 years. We were high school sweet hearts and broke up because I was more active which does not work in a relationship.

Way back in in the early 90's she lived with another fellow and it was before we knew a cold sore could be transferred to the genital area. Her ex contacted her and told him he had it and for 15 years now thought she gave it to him. (Know this due to recent recontact)

It appears their infection was best we can figure was transmitted through oral sex and that old hatchet is now buried. The part that now ticks us off about it was way back then he contacted her and informed her of him being positive and she got tested because she started having a single bump come up. The doctor told her in October of 95 that is was just hormonal. Although she told her ex husband about it (they were together during the first test) and me when we first got back together we never did take precautions because it was hormonal.

Now fast forward to present day and she got retested which turned out positive. Then I got tested Thursday and should know by Monday. I di not blame her, but it would have been nice if the doctor had told her that the test results came back as viral back then.

Now she feels horrible for giving to me and we are blowing off steam.

Maybe the blood tests back then were not nearly as accurate as they are now? When I had my first outbreak in 2000 I went to the doctor and he visually confirmed that it was HSV, but ordered a blood test to be sure. The blood test came back negative, but my Dr. told me that it was quite common to get false negatives during initial outbreaks (at least back then). He was convinced that it was HSV, and put me on Valtrex. The Valtrex cleared it up in a week, so that pretty much confirmed his diagnosis.

Flash forward to a year ago. I hadn't had an outbreak in 4 years, so I thought that maybe the blood test from 2000 was accurate and my Doctor's visual diagnosis may not have been correct. So at my physical that year I had my current doctor do a full round of STD tests. Low and behold I was positive for HSV, and from the results he determined that I had it for quite some time. Even more confirmation for me is that I am now currently going through the worst OB I have ever had, even worse than the first one.

I would be curious why your outbreak is so bad now. Is it from taking Valtrex and stopping, or severe stress, or whatever it maybe. My wife is definitely positive and odds are I am even though I have not gotten my results yet. I hope yours gets better soon. It is one of those things now that doing Christmas shopping I pass someone and wonder, "Do they have it, or do they have it?" I think of this EVERY day. My wife started taking this medicine every day and loving it. Her headaches have gone, her back aches have gone, her irritation she has always felt in her privates that she has had for so long she just thought was life is gone. So far with the exception of having this mess the benefits have been positive.

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
