There is already a vaccine present in everyone who has anti bodies for herpes but it doesn't last forever. So I'm guessing you are talking about a therapeutic vaccine?

Ok, he vacccine that only worked in woman who didn't have either strain of HSV got axed by GSK. There is no vaccine available in the USA for HSV on he market. AG707 as well as Immunovex have completed Phase I trials. No work on Immunovex but initial analysis of AG707 looks very promising. AIC316 is our best bet for hitting the market. Other than Vivagel that can be used to keep from transmitting HSV genitally. I think Superman Face was talking about our own immune system, not sure. He'll have to answer that. But if he know's of another vaccine on the market in the USA, please provide a link with the info on it.

Sweet7, the best vaccine possible, is the anti-bodies in infected people. People who have HSV have the vaccine within them. This would be a preventative vaccine not a therapeutic. The same with HIV. The best possible vaccine already exists in the blood of infected people. Does AG707 have any therapeutic value?

Immunovex - I emailed their clinical director and asked about the progress of this... will apprise if/when I hear.

Next, ever hear of AURX? They appeared to have a really promising therapeutic vaccine 5 or 6 yrs ago that went into phase 3 of a clinical trial in Mexico and the news that I have seen stops here.

Anyone on here heard anything about this? I will follow up with the contact listed on their website.

I agree with you once you have the antibody you can't get infected again! i wont have a problem with this virus if it just stayed latent like chicken pox and didnt cause recurrent pain/sores hence no infection of other people. I also heard one of the researchers said a mutated strain of HSV ( if they take out or modify one of the proteins) does not cause recurrent outbreaks and hence you can't infect anybody so why isn't anybody taking the strains of hsv in affected individuals and making a mutant strain out of it and making a vaccine? They can either use this as a therapeutic or preventive vaccine, like i don't get whats going on! with the flu vaccine it takes them less than 3 months to get a vaccine prepared for the flu season and vaccinate everyone and with gardasil it took less than 5yrs to get on the market why is herpes different! who cares about the flu or whatever else? fucking find a vaccine for herpes! jeez!

See the press release... yes it is primarily therapeutic. Now, the heck of it is here is this real promising product but no company is willing to help them push it to phase 2. Hence, I modified the most recent petition to mention Vical and Antigenics - both with similar types of products... Therefore, I think it is imperative that we really push these petitions. We can't let these drugs like AG707 die. Note: The press release is 6 months old and still they have no partner. Kind of crazy for a market as big as hsv...

Press Release Begins:

July 27, 2010 8:47 AM EDT

Antigenics (Nasdaq: AGEN) announced positive results with AG-707, an investigational therapeutic vaccine being developed to treat herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2), the virus that causes genital herpes, in infected patients. Developed by Antigenics, the vaccine triggers a cellular immune response, stimulating both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells.

“I believe these data represent the first finding of their kind in genital herpes treatments—showing a vaccine, AG-707, elicits both CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses in humans,” said David Koelle, M.D., study investigator and professor of Medicine, Laboratory Medicine and Global Health Medicine, University of Washington. "We are very encouraged by these results. Recent data suggest both of these arms of immunity are needed for successful treatment of genital herpes.”

Data will be presented at the International Herpes Workshop annual meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 27 by study investigator, Dr. Koelle. The full data will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

“The obvious potential of AG-707 is in managing outbreaks and disease transmission in patients with genital herpes,” added Koelle. “Being able to impact and possibly decrease the spread of genital herpes would be a huge step in stemming this epidemic.”

“These results represent proof of concept for our proprietary off-the-shelf infectious disease platform. Based on our technology of integrating heat shock proteins with antigenic peptides, we could potentially create therapeutic vaccines for many infectious diseases. Our next step is to engage a partner to advance the clinical development of AG-707 in genital herpes and to pursue the broader application of the platform technology,” added Garo Armen, PhD, Antigenics chairman and CEO.

STUDY RESULTS

In this four-arm, phase 1 study, 35 HSV-2 seropositive patients received AG-707+QS-21 Stimulon® adjuvant (Antigenics proprietary saponin adjuvant), AG-707 alone, QS-21 alone, or placebo. Patients received three treatments at two-week intervals. The vaccine was well tolerated, with injection site pain as the most common reported adverse event.

All patients who were evaluable for immune response and received AG-707 with QS-21 showed a statistically significant CD4+ T cell response (100%; 7/7) to HSV-2 antigens as detected by IFNγ Elispot, and the majority of those patients demonstrated a CD8+ T cell response (63%; 5/8).

This study is the first to demonstrate that heat shock proteins complexed to viral antigens induce an antigen-specific T cell response in humans.

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?

      @CHTany thoughts? Thanks!
