2 months -my experience plus question on OB

Hi there!

I'm 23, and I was diagnosed with Genital Herpes on November 1st. When I first found out I was utterly devastated -I wanted to die and was trying to find someone to blame my disease on. I was very depressed for about a month and felt nothing but regret.

Two months later, I have actually learned how to cope with it, found a lot of support groups and realized that you can lead a perfectly normal life even with Herpes. As a matter of fact, I think of this as an opportunity to change the unhealthy lifestyle I had been leading and to take better care of my body, and to learn to accept myself as who I am. I feel very motivated knowing that I am not alone in this and that there are people who can support you and share their experiences.

I have a question however regarding OB's. I'm experiencing my third OB in 2 months, and it is actually quite tolerable. I know every person's immune system is different and their reaction to the virus will vary; however, what has your experience been like? Do the OB's become less painful and frequent during time? I would really appreciate it if you shared your experiences with me!! ;)

Hello Mer and welcome.

I have had gshv2 since March of this year. The first 3-4 months were kind of rough but things settled down since then. I am currently having an OB for the first time since June. I only think I got an OB due to having a cold and my immune system being taxed.

I pretty much eat and drink what I want and have had little or no problems. Good luck to you.

Okay.... makes sense.... I hope it is helping.  Again, I would ask about a Rx for valacyclovir instead of acyclovir.... valacyclovir gets more acyclovir into your system than taking straight acyclovir.

Hi @Throwaway765 yes that all makes sense and you’ve pretty well reached the right conclusions except for a very significant fact!! You are right, receiving genital HSV-2 from oral sex is unheard of, just not feasible given how people have it and whether it actually sheds in infectious quantities or not. Safely rule this out. Now HSV-1; once you have this as you do orally, you have immunity against infection anywhere else on the body, it is also not feasible.  The symptoms you describe are also not related to herpes in the absence of lesions.

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
