Hey, I'm new here. Hope everyone is doing well :wavey:.I am kind of scared and shocked about my diagnosis about 5 months ago with HSV-1 (genital). I am afraid of infecting my new boyfriend because of kissing, making out, etc even though I have my outbreaks in the genital region. I have opened up to him that I have HSV-1 and he seemed okay with it :embarassed:,but I still worry especially for him.

Some of my other concerns about hsv is the aches, the foul odor of discharge :(, recurrences (how do I know how many outbreaks will I have?), and What can I and cannot do in my relationship?

I think I only had the very first out break about 5 months ago and I'm pretty sure I have one now, but its only one or two bumps and it isn't as bad. I've heard that it's normal to have another outbreak within the year of the first outbreak? Since my first outbreak I have had ongoing muscle and joint pains, sweating & discharge in the genital regions, and quite a bit of discomfort. Why are these symptoms still happening since the first outbreak? (Note: I took valtrex for a week with the very first out break and now I'm on it again for 5 days.)

I'm really worried. :(

I'm glad I found this support though :D

Hi Manic,

I like you were was diagnosted with genital hsv1. I am very proud that you told your boyfriend that must have been hard to do. I still kiss my husband without out giving it to him so just keep a look out for sores on your lips, they would start with tingeling.

I think I have had it since April but did not find out Until this past October. Also like you I have ongoing muscle and joint pains, especially in the back and vaginal area. My first ob was horrible lasted 3 months but finally went away just before Thanksgiving. I have also had some mini obs without sores that would just last a few days. It takes awhile for our bodies to build up the antibodies to fight the virus so be patient. Don't worry things will get better for us! Try not to stress because stress feeds this virus. Take a step back do something relaxing for yourself like take a nice warm epsom salt bath which can be very soothing. Have you ever done yoga? Try it.

Also come on chat everyone there are so kind and loving and you can ask all the questions you want! If it wasn't for them I would have been lost. Take care, hope to see you!

Okay.... makes sense.... I hope it is helping.  Again, I would ask about a Rx for valacyclovir instead of acyclovir.... valacyclovir gets more acyclovir into your system than taking straight acyclovir.

Hi @Throwaway765 yes that all makes sense and you’ve pretty well reached the right conclusions except for a very significant fact!! You are right, receiving genital HSV-2 from oral sex is unheard of, just not feasible given how people have it and whether it actually sheds in infectious quantities or not. Safely rule this out. Now HSV-1; once you have this as you do orally, you have immunity against infection anywhere else on the body, it is also not feasible.  The symptoms you describe are also not related to herpes in the absence of lesions.

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
