How long does your ob last on average?

Hi, I've been living with herpes (HSV-2) for the past 5 years. I had 3 outbreaks in total: the first (and very painful one) 5 years ago, the second about 2 years ago, and I am in the process of my third one.

My first ob lasted 2 weeks. Every symptom disappeared just as quickly as it came on. I remember trying every single remedy suggested by the internet, the most useful ones are: if you have open lesions try using liquid bandange, blowdrying (down there) after the shower, wearing cotton underwear, and sleeping naked. You want to keep the lesions as dry as possible to get them to heal. Lots of Lysine, ibuprofen, vitamins, and sleep. And definitely positive attitude.

My second ob lasted a month. I noticed one bump on my labium majora paired with a fever and tender-to-touch ovaries - I figured I was having an ob. Bump lasted approximately two weeks but then I noticed another one on labium minora, which lasted approximately 2 weeks as well. I did not take any medicine or lysine during my second ob.

Now, almost exactly 2 years later I'm having a 3rd outbreak. It is also just one bump, it doesn't bother me but I make sure not to touch any other part of my body after I touch it as I don't want another bump for the next 2 weeks. Ob started on Dec. 22nd, I'm timing it to see how long it lasts, I'm taking 1500mg lysine daily, no prescription medicine, lots of vitamin C and sleep, no stress whatsoever.

How long is your ob? How do you handle it when you get it? Prescription meds or self-remedy?

YOU GIVE ME HOPE!

I was diagnosed with HSV2, in July 2010 and after reading that on average in the first year people can get up to 4-5 OBs (and sometimes MORE!) I feel relieved that yours was only a few in a few years. I know that doesn't make it any BETTER, but it sure is better than experiencing them every month :)

My first OB lasted a month. I never saw any sores, and if I've ever had a 2nd OB (I've had weird symptoms, and just recently got over a yeast infection which I think could've been an OB)...I still don't see sores. I just get irritation down there. I took a Canesten...doubled up on Valtrex and in 2-3 days it was gone.

But who knows...maybe it WASN'T an ob.......I am also on daily Valtrex and I double up when I think I'm going to have one, which probably half of the time, it ends up being nothing but prodromes....

I hear they are generally mild and more tolerable than the first. This is about all I know :)

Mine vary, my first was very mild, which gave me a false sense of confidence. the 2nd kicked my ass! they all vary, and now almost a year in, they are becoming less and less frequent and painful. i dont take suppressives, but have acyclovir on hand for when I feel them coming on...we have a grocery store pharmacy that will charge you 10 bucks for a 90 day supply. 180 for 10bucks, and the 5 dollar join up fee. I chose to let my body develop antibodies to fight this virus.

Have you all heard of this product called Fast Results?

http://www.drugstore.com/qxp267881/fast_results/genital_herpes_treatment_topical_spray.htm?fromsrch=herpes

It seems to have good reviews...

I was visually diagnosed, still awaiting my results and if in fact, they came back positive for herpes, I plan to use that along with valtrex...

My 1st was about oct 25th. It lasted about a week. So far nothing else besides pain in the back of my left leg, and the almost constant tingle. I haven't been taking anything, but vitamins, and haven't been consistent wit them. Until recent, i been having the tingle, and itch. I read somewhere that diaper rash cream is effective, so i bought some. It really helped with whatever was going on, or about to.

I've had genital hsv1 for 6 years, and unusually for hsv1, for the first few years I got 6-8 outbreaks a year.

However, my outbreaks themselves are mild - no more than 1-2 tiny blisters - and last 2-3 days at most until fully healed. Half the time I'm not even sure if I'm having an outbreak, because the blisters are so small and appear and burst within an hour or two. They are never painful.

Never had the tingle, never had a severe outbreak. My first outbreak lasted a week, and I felt very ill, fever etc, but there wasn't much to see - I didn't even get a blister though I did have a paper cut like sore.

Wow, one or two sores? I've got a dozen I can see and the doctor said there were lots inside that I can't see (which is why it took me so long to realize it wasn't another yeast infection). Does this mean my future outbreaks will also have multiple sores? Or if I take acyclovir at the first sign of trouble will that make for fewer blisters?

My first outbreak with GHSV 1 was severe with blisters inside and out covering me from my pubic hair all the way up my behind. That was in March of this year. I have had constant prodrome symptoms and times of lots of swelling, but the second outbreak came at 8 months and it was just one bump that never busted. It lasted 2 days. So just because your first outbreak is bad, does not mean the next one will be. My first outbreak lasted over a month. I did start taking meds the first day it appeared on the second outbreak.

My first OB lasted about 3 weeks and subsequent OBs have consisted of only a few bumps and they are usually gone in about 5-6 days.

I have had ghsv2 since March and went from the end of June to just before Xmas with out an OB. I got a nasty cold just before Xmas which I believe helped to cause this last OB. I didn't even have any prodome with it this time.

I don't take antivirals as I want my body to fight it. I did take lots of vitamin C and other immune boosters this last time round as I had the OB and a cold.

I had my first ob in October, it was so painful that I landed in the hospital for 3 days. Since then I've had exactly one week ob free; the ob's that I had were very minor until recently. I've been on Valtrex since I had the first ob, my doctor had me take 500 mg twice a week. This past week I have about 15 blisters and it's painful so my doctor has me taking 1000mg twice a day for 3 days, then only once a day. I experienced the tingling feeling in the beginning but not anymore, in fact I seem to produce this weird stuff while I'm having an ob. I'm so devasted because it seems like I have had a non-stop ob. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm at my wit's end, don't know what else to do and stressing about it but I know the stress is not helping me either. Any suggestions??

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?

      @CHTany thoughts? Thanks!
