Hey. I was just officially diagnosed with genital herpes 3 days ago, and getting the news was devastating. But I have sort of known or suspected that I have it for 3 months now. The first blood test I got came back negative, but now I know that was just because I got tested too early, before the antibodies had time to build. This is all very overwhelming, I'm so young and my partner and I discussed our histories and even used protection. I took all the possible precautions and still caught this nasty virus. I know there's nothing I can do about it so I'm just trying to accept the fact that life does go on. Hopefully I can find comfort in the fact that I'm not the only one in the world with this terrible virus, and that I won't be alone for my whole life. Thanks for the support!

The Majority of people carry this virus. I have carried the genital herpes strain for over 32 years. Not nasty, don't be devastated, this is a centuries old virus. Your grandparents for centuries have carried it.

Hi dancer and welcome to the site. It is good to hear an optimistic and positive attitude from you about this. That will help you out no end. You can still get herpes when using protection. If one of you has ever had a cold sore, this is also a very likely cause. It's great you have found this place. You will realise you are not alone and there are actually thousands of members here in the same position as you. Come and join chat if you haven't already, and there you can talk to other people. It can be very helpful in your own journey through this. Hope to see you around!

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
