newly diagnosed

at the beginning of the december i went to the doctor for extremely painful urination and a discharge. she checked me for chlamydia and gonnerehea and it was negative. she was unconcerned about the pain i was continuing to have so figured what the heck must be nothing. so boyfriend and i celebrated by having sex. when i was in i had a red spot on my leg but we didnt think anything of it. the red spot started doing funky stuff so about a week later i went back to the doctor for that. oh its shingles, then i mentioned a sore on my vaginal area and he decided to test my spot. " but dont worry it would be highly unlikely for it to be that far from home". while waiting to hear from him (BTW never get sick around the holidays) i found an internal sore with a white spot. self diagnosed myself with herpes or HPV, went to a medical aid unit (new years day) to have a medical professional look and tell me what they thought. oh dont worry you have friction sores and a bad yeast infection. oh so relieved!! celebrate with sex again... monday get a call from the dr "hey guess what". he tells me not to fret, its just socially inconvienent, but here i am thinking about the sex we had during the worst time to have it. fretting that every sore spot in my mouth or itchy spot on my hand is where i managed to spread it. spending money to get my boyfriend tested and feeling well...disgusting. boyfriend wants us to go to group therapy or at least therapy cause he knows this is tearing me up. still tring to find one. not an easy thing

Sorry to hear about this happening to you. I just got diagnosed with genital herpes today. I feel so nasty and down about myself its not even cool. So i know how you feel. Its a good thing that your guy is working with you on this cause i know a lot of ppl that would dip out. I Just met a girl and fell head over heals for her and then today i figure this out. we havent done anything sexually yet but now some how i have to explain this to her. The worst part is I have never had sex with out a condom so when i thought i was protecting myself i wasnt. If you ever want to chat about it let me know! good luck!

Hang in there, girl. Everyone on here can relate to the turmoil you're experiencing right now. It's tough, but it gets

better. You didn't do anything wrong, and realize that you are definitely NOT ALONE. Therapy or support groups

might be a good idea. Writing about it has really helped me also. You will get through this...it's a speed bump, not

a car wreck. One Love.

thanks guys. i think the worst part is the knowledge that i might have given it to my boyfriend. i cant help but wonder if i had been able to get in with the obgyn that first time maybe i wouldnt be so freaked out because there would be no way we'd have been having sex, i think the obgyn would have recognized it better. and i have very little confidence in my family doctors advice on this considering he was so wrong. "the chances of it being hsv2 that far from the genitals is highlky unlikely" really makes his "oh its highly unlikely you'll spread it to your mouth or hands" seem not so... i dunno... confident? i really am lucky. i feel horrible though this poor guy thought i was a great catch and now hes having to get tested:-( funny teacherman...my BF used that same analogy, speed bump not a car wreck

Okay.... makes sense.... I hope it is helping.  Again, I would ask about a Rx for valacyclovir instead of acyclovir.... valacyclovir gets more acyclovir into your system than taking straight acyclovir.

Hi @Throwaway765 yes that all makes sense and you’ve pretty well reached the right conclusions except for a very significant fact!! You are right, receiving genital HSV-2 from oral sex is unheard of, just not feasible given how people have it and whether it actually sheds in infectious quantities or not. Safely rule this out. Now HSV-1; once you have this as you do orally, you have immunity against infection anywhere else on the body, it is also not feasible.  The symptoms you describe are also not related to herpes in the absence of lesions.

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
