Really bad flank pain.

Recommended Posts

Eosino

A week and a half ago i had my first outbreak. I had horrible flank pain and flu symptoms.

My outbreak has completely healed, i don't even have scabs anymore.

This morning i woke up with that horrible throbbing flank pain yet again. It is really really painful. I'm wondering if this is my body telling me that i am going to have another outbreak very soon.

I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced the same thing and if it is indeed linked to the herpes virus or if something else may be causing this.

I get pain down one thigh, very similar to sciatica.

Usually a day or two before I get an outbreak, although sometimes I don't get an outbreak (I assume on those occasions it is probably when the virus is active and therefore I am probably shedding asymptomatically so as soon as I feel that pain in my thigh I avoid sex).

The dr I saw on Friday says in some ways I am lucky in that I have lots of pre-warning and can have the opportunity to protect the people I sleep with, however the unfortunate side is that there is little that can be be done to treat neurological symptoms (herpes lives in your nerves).

When I was first infected I was sick on and off for a couple of months, with flu, swollen glands, leg pain and a small lump on my vagina that never ulcerated. So it may be that you are still experiencing symptoms from your first out break.

Give it a few days to see what kind of truce your body and the virus working out...and if it is still worrying you talk to your dr.

Thanks so much for your insight. I was scared of it being kidney stones for a little while, but i know now it's not because i talked to someone who has had kidney stones 3 times and she said that what i'm describing does not sound like kidney stones.

I'm going to keep taking pain killers and see if it goes away soon.

Hi VTiny, can you say more about the small lump on the vagina that you mentioned? How long have you had it, do you still have or has it gone away? I just had a very mild second ob, just two sores that healed in ten days or so. But now I have an oval-shaped lump (I noticed it 3 days ago) under my skin near the vaginal opening on the right side. It hurts a bit, just some dull pain and when I press on it, I can kind of pinch it, grab it with my fingers. My internet research suggests that it may be Bartholin cyst. But then, it's not round, like a Bartholin cyst, to the best of my knowledge, should be. Or, I am thinking, that maybe it's the nerves from the ob. But then, why now, when the ob is over.

Gosh, it was a long time ago now....9 years!

I only got it the first time, and I guess it looked a lot like a cyst (a hard lump under the surface of the skin, about half the size of a pea). It lasted a month or so and went away with the other symptoms. When I got my second outbreak it was in the same place but was a regular ulcerating sore.

Is there a free STD clinic you can pop into and get somebody to take a look at it? Just to relieve your curiosity.

I know when I was very young and virginal I got a vaginal cyst which does sound similar (it took a week or so to heal on an antibiotic), also it is possible it could be an ingrown hair or a blind pimple. I suppose when you have herpes it is hard not to get worried that everything you experience in that area is an outbreak. The thing is there are other things that can affect that area...as you get to know your bodies reaction to herpes it will be easier for you to figure out what is herpes and what is one of the many other discomforts one can get in ones lady parts!

Thanks VTiny! Well, the swelling in the Barholin area is less but today I got lots of tiny red bumps -- yay, my third ob in three months! I have no fucking clue what is going on anymore! Is this swelling a prodrome to my third ob or a consequence of the 2nd that was finished just a few days ago -- who knows! Herpes is such an enigma! Yes, i think you are right in that with time I may be more able to recognize what is ob and what is not, as well as the triggers. Last night I had exactly five spoonfuls of peanut butter. I don't know if this caused it or what.

Bugger...I was thinking about this on the way home and thought I had, had a brain wave...but the location isn't right...with every outbreak that I get I get swollen lymph glands...they are higher up though...but it feels like a tender pea just under the surface of the skin.

I hope your new symptoms are feeling a bit better today, and it isn't another OB.

I have a small node-like bump in the pubic area in the same spot almost every time I have an OB. It had been a blister area the first few OB's I had, but it just seems to be underground now. . . I have had genital HSV2 for about 1 1/2 years now

Vtiny...I also get the sciatic leg pain as a warning. Lasts for a few days and goes away overnight. I used to get swolen nodes in my groin area and sensitive skin on my legs that felt like hot water burns, but not much lately.

So, warning symptoms that dont produce visible signs is viral shedding? How can that be, doesnt the virus need an opening in the skin to shed thru? I only recently related the sciatica with an OB, yet i have had sciatica for a few years. Gulp :-(

I don't know for sure about the shedding. I do know that the virus can shed even when there are no symptoms (and no opening on the skin), that is called asymptomatic shedding--lots of people apparently catch it like that. They have done some studies on it, apparently it is usually worse in the first year after you get it. I am sure there are times I am shedding that I don't know about, but if I get that leg pain I just work on the assumption that the virus is active so try and be extra cautious.

This groin/lymphatic knots have been annoying me quite a lot lately. It does give me pain on and off.

When I look at them in the mirror, there are several "bumps" (nodules-like) seen underneath the skin. So are these knots essentially diseased lymph nodes with active H living in them or is that immune response causing these knots?

*Sighs*

No...don't worry your lymphatic system is not diseased they get swollen when they are fighting an infection. If you get an infected graze on your leg they will swell up as well. Its just your immune system at work.

Kelly bean yes I had an ulcer in my mouth. I know it' unusual but as soon as he had told me that I got it swabbed and it came back positive. Then I had a blood test and that came back positive as well.   Anon222 Thank you it's just incredibly difficult thing to deal with. Especially being such a new thing to me.  It will change things though. I will never rest easy. I will always be worried about getting another one come up, I will have to pay expenses for preventative measures. I will have to tell everyone that wants to kiss me (not that I go around just kissing people but as this is life long never know how many people that may be) so it will be changing a lotg for me. I will never feel comfortable just kissing someone anymore. I will always be worried about passing it onto them. It changes my whole life. I will never be able to kiss a new born baby (If I ever have another child)  I will not be able to do so many things without stress and worry for the rest of my life:(

Hey there Chicken, I agree with what helpme said. Really no one cares about OHSV-1. Not to diminish your feelings but I just want you to know that it’s going to be okay. You honestly don’t have to worry about this at all. As he also said you are now in the MAJORITY of people. Please just go on living your normal life this should not change anything at all! Good luck!

I know blood test doesn't tell location. I know i have it orally since i had it as a child but i dont have any breakouts at all, the last breakout i remember was inside my lips when i was a kid. Like me my friends and my gf we are all asymptomatic orally. im just worried if the above mention symptoms say i have ghsv1?  and about disclosure im happy to tell. im not scared of it im just worried if i got it in the genitals, although all my doctors say im fine.

I don’t understand this post. You seem highly concerned of having herpes for someone who already tested positive for herpes. Your girlfriend has tested positive for herpes. What more is there to freak out about? Blood tests do not tell you location, are you worried if you break up how you will handle disclosure To someone else? That’s where I’m getting confused.
