Pretty scared! Any thoughts would be helpful!

Hi All,

About 2 weeks ago I had sex with an ex. There was some rubbing before using the condom and I did not use protection when I went down on her. A week ago I found a small white bump on my penis that did not hurt. Later that night, I began to feel horrible mostly marked my low energy and shortness of breath. The next day another bump appeared on my lip. This was also white and had a depressed center. I went to the doc. She felt that the bump on my penis was mulluscum (which I had contracted before from this woman) and froze it off. My other symptoms worsened. I began to get chills, a terrible cough, swollen throat, shortness of breath....I went back to the doc the next 2 days and they did not seem to think it significant that I had the bumps and sickness at the same time though I was blood and urine tested for everything. The bump on my penis seems gone though the bumps on my lip have turned into 4. All of them started out white and never hurt or itched, scabbed over, and now look like dried cuts. I had one of the bumps cultured yesterday after it appeared so I'm hoping that will give me accurate results. Has anyone else had a similar experience that turned out to be herpes? I've pretty much convinced myself it is which scares the hell out of me. I'm a healthy guy in his mid 20s...arg.

You got the bump on your lip cultured, which is a good thing. That's the best chance you have of figuring out whether or not it was caused by HSV. Nobody here can really give you a valid opinion about that. The lab tests can, so just try to chill out and wait for the results.

Yeah, unfortunately you just have to play the waiting game. Most of the stuff I've read said that HSV 2 doesn't inhabit

the mouth very well, although it can happen, it's apparently pretty rare. So if she had HSV1 (cold sore virus) it's more

likely that that can transfer to the mouth area. That's just what I've learned based on my readings, but I'm no doctor.

Keep calm, see what the results say, and know that you'll be okay regardless. The culture should give

accurate results. Hang in there, man.

Thanks folks. I guess I'll never be sure what the other bump that was frozen is and that has got me pretty scared.

It's scary if you don't know about something. Learn more about herpes, and you will probably get some peace of mind. The links on the right side of this page are an excellent resource.

Okay.... makes sense.... I hope it is helping.  Again, I would ask about a Rx for valacyclovir instead of acyclovir.... valacyclovir gets more acyclovir into your system than taking straight acyclovir.

Hi @Throwaway765 yes that all makes sense and you’ve pretty well reached the right conclusions except for a very significant fact!! You are right, receiving genital HSV-2 from oral sex is unheard of, just not feasible given how people have it and whether it actually sheds in infectious quantities or not. Safely rule this out. Now HSV-1; once you have this as you do orally, you have immunity against infection anywhere else on the body, it is also not feasible.  The symptoms you describe are also not related to herpes in the absence of lesions.

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
