Got a response from Vical

Here is the response:

Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your request. Your e-mail had been misfiled and was rediscovered during a year-end cleanup.

We are excited by the progress to date in our HSV-2 vaccine program, but we are still in the early stages of development. This vaccine is being developed with grant funding awarded by the NIH. The goal of this grant is to advance the vaccine to the point that it would be ready for initial testing in humans. Such testing would only occur if the development is successful and if additional grant funding can be secured.

The results at each step in the process determine what follows, and it is impossible to project with any accuracy either a clear path forward or the associated timeline. Accordingly, we have not announced any specific plans for advancement beyond completion of the currently funded work.

Our researchers are driven by the tremendous need for a vaccine against this dreaded infection and motivated by the many responses encouraging our efforts. We share your hope for a successful outcome. As with any scientific development, there are no shortcuts so progress can seem painfully slow. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

At this stage, we do not believe patient advocacy or private funding would be appropriate. I encourage you to monitor our progress by subscribing to our news release email alerts or RSS feeds, both options being available through our website at www.vical.com.

Regards,

Alan Engbring

This comes to show why the petitions are so important.

I agree with your last statment... Vical and Antigenics are specifically mentioned in the Change.org petition. These companies have to get some money to move forward as both of them have limited financial resources.

Please push these petitions. Money seems to be the hold up for all of the entities. We've got to get herpes on the map or we'll be sitting in the same place 5 years from now.

Is your oraginzation a valid non-profit? You didn't mention Chimirix CMX001. You also didn't mention AIC-316 by Aciruis. Those two drugs are most likely to hit the market first. Especially CMX001. I left out a few on my list that you have simply because they are no where near human clinical trials. I Will be putting those drugs or vaccines in a development section of my list when I get a chance to. Oh, and you didn't mention microbicides for prevention such as VivaGel. You could aso check out Divine9 at GNC. It show to inihibit HSV in mice and inihibit HPV in humans. I need to add that to my list since it is already on he market.

What is Divine9? And by GNC do you mean the supplement store?

      Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

      Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?

      @CHTany thoughts? Thanks!
