People act like it's nothing because it is so common. Over 70 percent of the population carries oral herpes, and medications to topically treat it are commonly available in stores.

Hi there, you don't have to let cold sores (oral herpes) run your life or ruin it for that matter. If and when you get an outbreak, just refrain from kissing your child at the time so as not to infect them. Cuddles are certainly not off the agenda though! Just explain to your little one that you have a sore spot that shouldn't be touched. You can teach kids from a young age and it is good for them to be informed early. Also, don't share cutlery or drinking glasses at the time of an outbreak. This does not necessarily mean it will be transmitted in this way, but it is a wise precaution to take. Other than that, try not to stress too much about it..as stress is a known trigger.

I have had a lot of success with applying a moisturiser every day which has a built in sunscreen. I put this on whether I will be out in the sun or not so that it becomes habitual. Increasing vitamin C intake has worked wonders too. I take 3 tablets a day. I have done these two things because my newest doctor informs me that excess sunlight and lack of vitamin C are two of the main triggers for cold sores. I hope you find what works for you and you can certainly give these things a go. It won't do you any harm either way!
