Hey eveybody. I've been lurking around this site for years and finally signed up. I was originally diagnosed with genital herpes back in 2003. For the first two years everything was pretty typical. I'd have an OB on the shaft of my wang every 3-4 months, each one seemingly less severe than the one prior. Then, two years to the month everything started going haywire. I began having ob's on my anus of all places and the prodromal leg burning became constant.

I've basically lived a version of that since 2005. I no longer get ob's on the wang, but have something on the ole rectum every 8-14 days, some last 4 days, one lasted for 35 days. They range from barely visible pin prick sores, to what looks like hella rug burn. They suck. I've been battling doctors for years who refuse to belief it's herpes. Iv'e spent small fortunes on every anti-viral/herbal/quack internet remedy you can imagine and nothing works. Thats my story.

I've had herpes since 2002 (I think I am a year older than you...I'm amused by the coincidences!).

I have been getting anal discomfit/itching it also started 2 years ago. I thought piles, thrush...I've tried everything. Eventually I got fed up...went to the GP a couple of weeks ago...and she said oh, must be anal dermatitis...gives me cortisone cream..without even looking!! I trundle off happy with the diagnosis...obviously it cant be herpes because...it comes when I am on the valtrex, every few weeks and it lasts far too long when it does.

Anyway I had to go to the GP again this Friday...(I am in the middle of a typing debacle--I've had conflicting pcr and blood tests) because I had one on the old fandango and I wanted a swab so I could know what bloody type I have and start popping valtrex again...and lo if the other dr, who I get to takes a look while he is down there , says "diddlydee, I better just test that for herpes". Dang! I have to wait until tuesday for the results...not a "happy weekend"...lots of "what if" thinking going on here in my neck of the woods.

I hope you get an answer and find something that works. Don't you just wish you can have some bit of you, you are not having to check for Obs all the time!

I hope you get rectal peace..soon! I feel for you. Herpes is weird...I wish it would pick a set of rules and play by them.

Weird. Mine are the exact same way. The ones down below last way, way longer than a regular outbreak. I'm gonna have my doc swab the next one. I'm pretty sure it's just herpes though. The good new is that I think some new anti-virals will be hitting the market in a year or so, so there is hope at least. I can't even imagine how a normal life would be at this point...to hell with fame and fortune, I'd be thrilled with a normal rectum...haha.

I got my swabs back from the dr...not herpes! I must admit I am relieved...now I just have to find something else that works and provides some relief!

I just tried Desitin maximum strength 40% zinc oxide and it seems to be healing the fissures. It's the first thing thats actually helping.

I'll give that a try..I have resorted to nappy ointment "for nappy complaints of a fungal nature"...as if having herpes isn't enough!
