Still having symptoms, could this be something else?

It is now almost 8 weeks since I had my first symptoms. To give a quick background, I had unprotected sex with a girl after coming out of a very long relationship. 2 days later, I had tingling, soreness and itching. That was it... I was tested 3 days later for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Both came back negative so the doc tested me for HSV. A week later (2 weeks now since first symptoms) I was HSV1 positive and HSV2 negative. Since I had no other symptoms (flu-ish, bumps, blisters, swollen glands, etc.) at the time, the doc said she couldn't do anything more and shoved me off to a urologist after prescribing 10 days of Valtrex 2000 mg a day.

The Valtrex didn't seem to do anything and the symptoms followed a slow leveling off after the first week. Slowly after about 2.5 weeks, I started to notice one symptom... I noticed a deeper purple color where I felt the symptoms all along the edge of the head of my penis. This was hard to see unless you pressed the skin, though.

Four weeks into the symptoms and the urologist finally gets me in. Symptoms have pretty much reached a steady on/off state of bothering me numerous times during the day, either itching or soreness. The doc looked at me for 15 seconds (no exaggeration) and says something to the effect of, "Yep you have it, you have vesicles all over." To which I asked where they were... he couldn't show me one when I pressed him. He finally said it is normal to have HSV1 and moved me out of the office without any further exam or conseling.

Now it is 8 weeks and I still have the same symptoms. One thing I noticed was the girl I am with (she has been tested and is waiting on results, took a while due to appointment availability for her doc) couldn't wait any longer and she wanted to have sex even though we went through all the sites educating ourselves. I used a condom and noticed the next day the itching and soreness was really bad for the next 2 days. That is the only other strange thing that has happened.

My question is, is this normal for a HSV1 genital 1st outbreak to last this long and to be like this?

Thanks...

Hi. I am still new at this, so I will try to help you as much as I can. I have heard of H lasting up to 4 weeks, not 8. Valtrex should of helped. I am on Valtrex 1000 mg every day and have not had a OB since I ws diagn. back in September. I was told by my Doctor that a blood test would come back neg. if you are tested before 12-16 weeks from your first OB. Your body needs time to make anti bodies. The blisters are painful and when they burst it is worse. Anyone with open sore wouldn't even dream of making love because of the pain. If I were you, I would get a second opinion. Good luck

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
