hsv1 vs. hsv2- stories please!

So, I had my first ob over a month ago and it was very painful, although it was one large spot instead of many small ones, which confused my gynecologist. After it healed, another one, almost identical, popped up in a close spot to the first. I was sure that it was type 2, but my tests have all come back as type 1. I am currently taking the generic for Valtrex and doing great, although the fear of another ob still haunts me. I would love to hear some positive stories about living with ghsv 1! I have read that it is not as severe as type 2, but you could have fooled me a month ago! I have a very positive partner who tested positive for hsv 1, so I'm not so worried about dating at the moment. Thanks so much in advance for your support!

I found out I had type 1 almost a year ago. My ex-boyfriend completely denies that he had anything to do with it, and swears I was cheating, but he came up positive as well. Every month almost to the exact day I came up with another outbreak for 3 months....finally, I realized that when I started sticking to a regular diet, sleeping right, and not stressing, the outbreaks became less frequent...so much so that I've only had one in the last 7 months....

the first couple are the worst, but after that they start becoming less frequent and less painful as long as you take care of your body. When I was first diagnosed, the doctors gave me a packet and sent me on my way, I've done all the research I could online because I wanted to know how to stop this from happening again.....

as long as you take care of yourself, you will see improvements....it got to a point where I stopped thinking about so much and started focusing on how to make myself a better person....they are right when they say that it socially affects you more than it does physically because every single guy I've gotten close to and told has gone running for the hills, so be lucky that you have someone that understands...my ex found out and refuses to even come near me when we're in the same vicinity....

I'm interested to hear how others are affected by GHSV-1 as well. I was diagnosed with GHSV-1 last week - with the severity of the outbreak, I was sure it was HSV-2, as I thought an HSV-1 outbreak in the genitals would be less severe. I'm still recovering from my first OB...but feeling much better than I was last week!

Hi Happy G,

I have had HSV II for 14 years. Everyone thinks I am the epitome of health :) I'm big on greens and until NOW, I have been ob free below the waistline. I have, however, had bumps on my face which I have often wondered if they were HSVII? The reason is that I would go to the skin care lady and use everything to keep my skin in check but NOTHING worked. Often times, they made it worse with the picking and peeling and poking! So, I have studied nutrition for almost 18 years now and have found the acid vs. alkaline theory to be true. I always keep greens (powdered and in a jar purchased from most any health food store) on hand and mix with applejuice. It really works and almost the same day as when I drink it. Fresh juices work wonders even more! Green drinks: (kale, spinach, cucumber, parsley) with lemon,ginger and apple. Not only will it make your issues better but complexion beautiful too!

Hope this helps!

I have HSV1 genital and oral, and have had it for about 7 years. My first OB was genital, and it was by far the worst. I just had my first cold sore about 2 months ago, which is what brought me to this site.

I rarely get OBs, probably 1-2 a year on average. The OBs I do get are very mild, usually a few red bumps that never form sores. I have had great success with Abreva with both my cold sore and my genital OBs. Whenever I see a red bump downstairs, I put a dab of Abreva on it and it typically clears up overnight.

GHSV1 is typically said to be less severe because the strain is more "at home" on the mouth/face. Many sufferers of GHSV1 have less frequent and less severe genital outbreaks. But of course this isn't true of everyone, because this virus seems to effect everyone differently. There is no "good type" of HSV, but both types can typically be controlled to the point that they barely affect your life.

How do you tell if you have type 1 or type 2? My doctor never told me. In fact she just looked at me and told me that I contracted herpes. I know I have genital herpes but I was just wondering how do you know which type you have?

I had two tests by two different doctors done. They both took very excruciating swabs of my swores and sent them to be tested. I found out my results almost a week later. Other than that, I probably would have just assumed it was type 2 because it was genital.

      Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

      Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?

      @CHTany thoughts? Thanks!
