Oral sex

would love to hear peoples experience with oral sex and genital HSV 2. I have genital herpes and my partner does not. At this point my penis has been off limits as far as he is concerned, even touching it. He did however allow me to use a condom when he was receptive partner for anal sex. What is peoples experience with their partners comfort level in providing oral. I realize that I should put a condom on my penis, however my partner isn't crazy about the taste and texture of most condoms. I don't even know how

good it would feel for me. I have not had any outbreaks (that I know of) for years, and am taking Valtrex every day. Please share your experiences and offer me some good advice.

Heya, I found out about a week ago that I had both HSV 1 and 2, but have not had any symptoms on my mouth, only down under. She does not have it as test results have just shown today but we've been together for about 8 months doing oral and vaginal with and without condoms. From what I understand (depending on the severity of your outbreaks) it is typically okay to have oral sex when you ARE NOT having an outbreak. that being said, is it a good idea? well you can contract it while there are no active symptoms if your shedding. I really am just learning about all this so hopefully you can use what I know (have asked doctors and researched ENDLESS HOURS ONLINE!)

I have had herpes for 9 years...I have been on suppressive meds during that time.

I have had oral, anal and vaginal sex with and without protection...and as yet have not passed it on to any of my sexual partners. Look up the risk statistic on valtrex...the risk of passing it is relatively tiny. Doesn't help much if your partner is in the 1-3% but those are still pretty good odds. If you knew you had a 99% chance of winning the lottery you would probably buy a ticket! The point is it is your partner who needs to feel comfortable...perhaps your local STD clinic of a specialist STD counsellor might be able to help you, discuss your options as a couple.

HSV2's preferred location is genital and generally it is either asymptomatic or causes very few outbreaks if transferred to the oral region.

I hope things go well for you...and you get some great oral...soon ;-)

Thanks for your response! I received unprotected oral 10 weeks ago and immediately after had stinging in my glans and weird nerve pain. I am positive for HSV1 due to cold sores I got as a child, but as recent as 9 weeks after this exposure have tested negative for HSV2.    im nervous that I may have acquired hsv1 again on my genitals since HSV2 is rarely acquired from oral sex and doesn’t shed hardly at all, but haven’t seen any sores yet. Just weird symptoms and this started recently in my buttcrack when I was taking antibiotics.   Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. @WilsoInAus

Hi @Throwaway765 and welcome. There is absolutely no concern over this being related to herpes. Something must be concerning you as to the possibility of herpes… what is it?
