I know it can be hard to take a sick day b/c they all want to know what's wrong with you.If it's cold and flu season then it's easy to think of something.

You could also say you have a bladder infection, actually at the start of my OB's it feels like a bladder infection.

Or tell them you have eaten something that didn't agree with you.

If you have children you can say one of them is sick and no one should ask any questions.

OR you can tell them you are ill and that it's personal. Nobody has to tell their employer why they are sick. It's none of their concern... know what I mean?

The only day I ditched for it so far is when I got diagnosed... I freaked and was just going to go in late... made my sister leave work to be with me... I am lucky... I just told my boss I had a bad Dr aapt and she was ok with it... plus she knows I have hormonal issues... and generally just figures that they can't get them adjusted right...

No one has to know why ur sick.

Get ur doctor to write medical illness on the medical certificate..

No one needs to say why they are sick..

If you do. i suggest you look up ur union etc

Just my option. only worth 2 cents

btw. just found this site , wish there was a site like this for australia

my outbreaks are so big and obvious I would have to take a full two weeks off in order for nobody to ever notice. The challenge here lies with trying come up with an excuse as to why you have multiple 1 inch sores on your face.

If it's summer I blame it on the sun. winter's a bit harder. I've used an allergic reaction to lotion before. luckily I've only had one real bad breakout in the winter. I don't know what else I can say

case in point. today, not thinking, I took off my hat and my buddy saw the 1 inch mark on my forehead. "What the hell happened to you!?" ...he yelled this too, ugh:sad:. I just said it was a reaction to a sun burn and he was fine with that response and dropped it

Would have a problem saying that in England, it hasn't stopped raining!!!

I would say personal problems, let them think what they want.

Ahhh work...

I'm so glad I found this site. I seriously go into a depressive state when I get an outbreak. Most of the time they're small and controllable but a couple times a year they blow up and erupt all over my mouth and I'm too embarassed to go to work or even leave the house -- like now.

It might sound crazy but I haven't left the house in 4 days. Along with my seclusion I get in a depressive state that doesn't lift until the sores are gone. I've had enough and I can't go on like this. I've decided to try a new dermatologist and ask him/her about supressive therapy with the anti-virals. I seriously will do anything and everything possible to try to keep this from happening again. This means war!

As for excuses for work, I usually say something like a stomach flu or the like to warrant being out of the office for a week straight. Luckily I work at a very understanding place. But alas Sunday is fast upon us and tomorrow I'll need to pick the scabs away so I can go to work on Monday. They're almost ready to come off anyway so I don't think it'll be an issue.

I'm also going to go to homedepot or somewhere and get those painters masks -- that way I can at least leave the house, even if I can't go to work. People will think I'm sick and probably a little nutty, but that's better than giving me a look of disgust like I'm some kind of sickly sexually promiscuous chick -- which I'm totally not.

Phew, forgive me but it feels good to vent. Hang in there brothers and sisters, I feel your pain!!

Painters mask??!! Not drawing attention to yourself at all then??!! What's wrong with a good old fashioned scarf if that's what you really want to do.

Take away the stigma of genital coldsores (I wish) and oral coldsores, I believe, would be a lot worse than genital, for the reasons you've pointed out.

Anyway, I don't think people normally associate oral coldsores with sex. WE do because we're educated. I really don't think you need to worry about the stigma too much.

And I agree, it's good to rant :-D

Hey @JS.245 and welcome to the website. The pictures aren’t that suggestive of herpes. Hard to tell from the pics what’s going on, but that could be a number of things. Are the larger bump bubble things persistent? What you have in the pics is hence independent of your herpes status.  The test results are inclusive - most people test over 5 if they are infected.  Do you have a history of oral cold sores?

Hey, just got a STD test a while ago after noticing these showing up at the base of my penis, but its been about 5 months since I was with someone and now these are showing up. It doesn't hurt nor do I have any other symptom that I know of. I'm trying to see what's up before I go to the doctors because I don't have insurance and I'm very anxious about the situation. the std test was expensive as is.

Just another set of supporting articles to a potential release date in 2024 giving hope to sufferers whom the standard of care is currently worthless: Promising Progress in clinical trials for Pritelivir (herpescureadvocacy.com) HSV Treatment Readies for Approval — Precision Vaccinations News

I have not found a cheaper source for Amenalief, and I've searched high and low. I have a thread called "Pritelivir at Last" you may want to follow as I have a strong belief that It may be available to the public in the summer of 2024 and as I find new info, I update the thread immediately. Now, may I suggest a combination of drugs that several others on this forum have found to be very effective over acyclovir alone? Myself and others have found that taking 40mg of omeprazole (Tagamet @dissolvedo2 ) with 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the morning and 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the evening alone for 3 days have had profound effectiveness at stopping outbreaks in their tracks. I'd like to remind you that I am not a doctor and at best I am personal researcher for what works for me. I @lw@ys share my findings with the forum in the hopes to help others alleviate their suffering. There is another drug combo that I have tried myself as well as others on this forum have tried and that I personally feel is a much more effective for myself. This combo is 1 gram of activated charcoal with 1-gram of valacyclovir in the morning followed by 1 gram of valacyclovir in the evening alone, again for 3 days. I have found that this has reduced my outbreaks to almost only once a year and they are mild at worse. Again, just a reminder that this works for me and may not work for you but I always feel that i have to share this with anyone that cannot get this virus under control so I hope my findings can help those of you who cannot achieve relief with the standard treatment alone. The stronger anti-virals come with risks and if I can help anyone avoid those risks then by all means I feel I have done some good in this world. I only ask that you let me know if either of these suggestions work for you so that I can document it in my notes. Good luck my friend!
