Seeming like it....

Recommended Posts

Starting dating a new girl a few weeks back. Always used condoms - no exceptions.

About 3 days ago started feeling irritation at the base of my penis on the left side.

Didn't think much of it as I had just shaved that in that area about 5 days ago (don't ask, rarely ever do that).

Anyway - irritation got worse, felt like jock itch. Came and went.

So far:

- no visible blisters or anything else

- area is not red - coloring is fine

- area does not hurt to be touched or pushed

- pain is most an annoyance, again similar to jock-itch - but unlike jock-itch (which I've had) - no discolored or peeling skin, and

- area is rather confined to that spot on lower left penis base

(from my estimation, this spot would be probably the first uncovered area when wearing a condom)

She has no idea yet but I've scheduled STD tests for us today. I do not expect to test positive in any case as it would likely be too early (I am HSV1 positive*) but if she tests positive that would be telling.

*As I've seen in a different post, I've tested positive for HSV1 for years and never in my life had an OB (I'm 40). However, my most previous test about 6 months ago tested negative for HSV1 to my great surprise - I'm assuming it a fluke and am having that retested today so we'll see.

Writing here mainly maybe as a "pre-test record" of my thoughts. I've feared HSV2 for years and have always been reasonably safe - but its not hitting me as hard as I expected. At least for now :)

Just to record a few more thoughts:

- no flu symptoms

- glands in my throat seem slightly swollen - can never find the ones in my abdomen

Borrowed some Valtrex from a friend and started taking 1000mg/day starting the 2nd day with the (maybe vain) hope of heading off any major OB at the pass and/or figuring it couldn't hurt.

You had "irritation" that came and went in 3 days (implied by the 'came and went'). Does that mean that you actually didn't see anything? This doesn't sound like HSV-2 at all.

If my reading is correct, the chance that what you are seeing is herpes is very slim. Of course, like 1/5 sexually active adults, you could have HSV-2 from any previous encounter.

And, you should stop taking the Valtrex. There are some indications that it may delay an accurate blood test.

Anyone know anything about potential side effects?

You obviously can’t read. Why don’t you actually read the article, or the excerpt I posted? Here it is even simpler for you: prostaglandins were shown to enhance the spread of herpes virus in cell culture 26 27 and to inhibit interferon production 27 28 and were implicated in the reactivation of herpetic skin lesions.

Hormones definitely affect HSV outbreaks according to research. I'm a male but on anti-estrogen medication in constant trouble. Have a look at my thread here: https://honeycomb.click/topic/76903-over-4-years-with-hsv-2-symptoms-keep-getting-worse-with-non-stop-outbreaks-despite-suppressive-therapy-need-help/

First page, 8th post with studies about E2 / Progesterone effects on HSV.

It's getting pretty terrible now, I don't ever remember the last time I was feeling normal. I'm so sick of this constant flu-like feeling that makes me depressed and very unproductive. I have so many ideas and ambitions for life but I end up just doing the bare minimum due to constantly feeling like shit.  A week ago I tried stopping my anti-estrogen medication if that could have been the cause (it states "infection" in the listed, common side effects). Had my hopes up for a day or two but just got another outbreak this week that makes me want to sleep in bed all day. On top of this, now my breasts hurt because of increased E2 levels.

I guess I still have some hopes with new research drugs such as Crispr and Amenalief. I would order Amenalief from Japan immediately, but it costs more than my monthly rent.. I might have to start a business on top of my full time job so I can afford it. Better option than self-pity but extra stress will surely not help with the HSV2 ;)

Probably the therapy with SADBE helps us to develop a partial immune system on HSV. If you use more SADBE you will develop more immune system on HSV. This is most likely a mechanism of action.
