i was just diagnosed with herpes today, what are the chances my partner has it?

I was just told today I am positive for herpes. I have been in a relationship with my partner for 2 years and before that I had protected sex so I don't know how I got it. My boyfriend is showing no symptoms and got a blood test taken 2 months ago that came back negative for herpes. Prior to my first outbreak we always had unprotected sex with eachother. What are the chances he has it ?

It is harder for a guy to get it from a girl than vice versa, and check out this article that talks about transmission rates. As you can see it really isn't easy to catch this virus:

Do you know he was tested specifically for herpes? Most STD screens do not include herpes because it is so common.

How were you diagnosed? Swab? Blood test? If you came back positive for hsv1 you may only have it oral, just like 80% of the adult population.

Using condoms does not always prevent the transmission of herpes. You can shed the virus anywhere in your genital region and that includes areas not covered by a condom.

Come to the Chat Room, there you will meet many nice fellow Herpsters who can offer you their support.

Good luck!

I have type 2 and I was diagnosed by swab ... And I'm pretty sure they tested for herpes because he asked for everything to be tested. I just find it hard to believe he doesn't have it and I do . Its kind of frustrating.

Hey

well i've heard that women contract it easier than men. I've heard of people being married or being in a relationship for years and the male never caught it. I dont understand that eitther. Us women have the worst of luck!! It is possible that you might of had it and your bf has not contracted it. You should ask him to get retested. Its always good to have more than one opinion.
