Can cold sores appear in your throat??

Recommended Posts

Green n Blue

I was diagnosed with genital herpes on April of last year. I learned my ex had passed it on to me when I had him get tested after my diagnosis and found that he had had both types of herpes for a while. He said he didn't know but that's another story.

I was diagnosed only with the genital type and I only had symptoms for that one. My ex never had any cold sores while being with me (as far as I could see) and neither have I so far. However, yesterday when I was eating I noticed that my throat hurt really, really bad every time I swallowed. At first I thought I could be catching a cold, although I have no other symptoms. Today I woke up with no pain, but after the usual meals of the day my throat hurts a little even if I'm not eating anything. I looked and I see these small blisters in my throat (in the uvula - if that's the correct name of that area-) and in the very back of my mouth where my wisdom teeth used to be (only on the left side, below). Could these be cold sores? I have several of these small blisters on those two areas, nothing in my lips.

I went to celebrate this Saturday that I finished my associate degree with some friends and had a lot of tequila shots, which I hadn't done before. So I don't know if it could be just irritation from the alcohol?? Pls if someone can help me...I don't know if I'm just being paranoid which I've been a lot ever since I was diagnosed with genital herpes...thanks!

This is a question for your doctor.

If you were diagnosed only with genital herpes than this is not what it is. Genital herpes does not travel to other parts of your body by itself and does not automatically cause oral cold sores. Besides herpes is mostly a skin condition, so I doubt you have it in your throat.

Don't trust diagnosis from strangers you meeting online. Go ask your doctor.

Come to the Chat Room, there you will find many nice fellow Herpsters who can offer you their advice.

Good luck!

JB

The Simple Answer Is Yes!

Hi GnB,

The simple answer to your question is yes one can have HSV in their throat, but JB is correct in saying that this is a question for your doctor. A doctor is the only way to get confirmation, and treatment.

Hope you feel better,

Inquiring1 ;)

Hi everyone  I have Ghsv1. 3 months I receive frequent outbreaks. There are no lesion redness, burning and itching as just a rash. I know that herpes trigger opportunistic infections. How do I know this mushroom or that herpes ?  Do you have frequent outbreaks is living Ghsv1? I feel alone

I have been positive for about 8 months and I’ve generally been open to friends and family about my status. I’ve tried a brief stint with dating other H+ folks from Postive Singles and it hasn’t really worked out.  There’s this guy who works security at my gym and he’s been chatting me up a lot recently. I like him and I haven’t made any moves but I get the vibe he’s getting ready to ask me out. It sucks because he’s obviously interested and I would love to go out on a date with him.  I’ve never had to disclose to a new person before and I’m really really really dreading this. I’m dreading it to the point where Im wondering if I should turn him down if he does ask me. I hate this. You know I could handle the symptoms of herpes, the only thing that sucks about this thing is that it’s contagious. I have zero problem taking drugs everyday, but valtrex is so fucking inadequate with providing me any reassurance of reducing transmission.  I’m so frustrated. Just give me some better fucking drugs so I can feel confident again.

Any advice on on how i can change the way she thinks of her insecurities in the event I ever see her again or hang out with her or do you guys think that it's better too just walk away. The truth is though i never met another girl like her before and she was fine with me having herpes i could tell by the she reacted too it . How do you change the way someone views them self that has low self esteem.

Note @Asr624 that an IgM result does not confirm a herpes diagnosis. Was the rash swabbed as well?

Yes it's entirely possible that he didn't know and just now gave it to you. I've been with my husband almost 19 years and he was recently tested and is still negative. It's still possible of course that I could give it to him at any point. Sounds like you have a strong marriage and there is no reason this needs to be an issue other than a minor annoyance. I have 2 healthy children and have had no related medical issues due to HSV.
