First recurrence? Advice, please!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was just diagnosed about two weeks ago. I noticed a sore on Monday and went to the doctor both tuesday and wednesday (the first time the guy said it was an ingrown hair... I wish!) and started Valtrex on Wednesday night. I had a VERY sudden and severe outbreak the first time including cramps like menstrual cramps, lower back pain, and extreme flu-like symptoms. The outbreak was gone the following Monday thanks to the Valtrex.

That was only a week and a half ago and last night I started feeling the cramps again (still not because of my period) and shooting pains through my genital area. I also have severe lower back pain and I had the WORST headache all afternoon/night yesterday.

My problem is that I had to go to Urgent Care because my insurance is out of state and the doctor only gave me a prescription for Valtrex for two times, the first I already used. I'm wondering if you think this *is* a recurrence happening or if it's just side affects from my first outbreak because it's happening within two weeks after my first outbreak. I only have one refill and I don't want to use it if it's not needed - but I'm already feeling uncomfortable and I'd like to head it off before it gets toobad this time.

I would really appreciate any advice you guys have to give. Thanks!

I think you should go to the doctor.

I've never had cramps or shooting pains, though I had the back pain and other symptoms, but everyone is different.

It could be herpes related, but then it could be more serious too.

I'd had to encourage you not to go and then it be something more serious.

I don't have insurance at all and when something concerns me, I find a way to get to the doc - regardless.

YOUR health is most important!

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
