Transmission - how soon symptoms show up?

Hi, I was just visiting my fiance for the past 5 days and I think I may have had a mild cold sore outbreak on my lips. He doesn't have herpes 1, but today he's thinking he may have gotten it from me. Can symptoms show up that fast? What are the time frames on the steps that take place during an outbreak? I've found numerous sites describing the steps, but are there any researched concrete timeframes for each stage? I've read that they can last anywhere from 9-14 days, but those are the only numbers I've found.

This is really scary...all this time I could have given it to my family with just a simple kiss hello :(

Thanks so much for your help

hard to say

not everyone who has hsv1 gets cold sores. in fact, i think it is estimated that about 1/5 of people who have the virus ever get a cold sore or get recurrent cold sores. so it's really hard to say ... in fact, you may already have hsv1 and not know it because you're the type who will never get a cold sore. i don't think any amount of treatment will stop the cold sore from being contagious if it is present. however, if her saliva didn't wash over the cold sore before touching the cup, then the virus wouldn't be transferred to the cup.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
