Question about Transmission

I went to the doctor yesterday thinking that I had a yeast infection. When she did the exam she discovered lesions and told me she thought I had herpes. I have only been with one person who is still currently my boyfriend. He has never been with anyone else either. Because of this she assumes that I must have contracted Type 1 of the genitals. She ran a test for 3 different bacterias including yeast and bacterial vaginosis (BV). And also the herpes test. I am still waiting on the herpes test but it came back positive that I had BV. I know almost 80% of the population have Type 1 of the mouth. Ok so to my question. Does any one know if it would have been possible that I touched a cold sore that I had and then what started out as BV turned into herpes because I touched my vaginal area? BV would have already caused burning and itching, so I'm wondering if I somehow touched a coldsore I had and then tought my genitals, giving myself herpes type 1 of the genitals. I'm still waiting on my test results and am praying that it is something else other than herpes but it doesnt like hopeful. Thanks

Your test results will really answer the question of what you have. If you already HSV 1 oral you cannot reinfect yourself genitally. Especially if you've has HSV 1 oral since you were a kid (as most people have). If your doctor only did a culture...it will not tell you the type. You can either wait for the results...or just go ahead and get the bloodwork done. A lot can go wrong with cultures so my advice is to just go get the bloodwork done regardless. If you are already dealing with BV that may affect validity of culture...just my opinion from previous readings on other websites. I highly recommend a blood test. Results come pretty quick...2 or 3 days. All your questions will be answered then.

Hope this helps.

However, herpes simplex virus type-1 antibodies will not necessarily protect you from contracting herpes simplex virus type-2. Just thought I would mention that..

Actually, you can find out which type you have via a culture. All your doctor has to do is to tell the lab to do the extra typing test.

You can either wait for the results...or just go ahead and get the bloodwork done.

If you can get in to have your culture done within the first 24 hours of the outbreak or rash appearing then there really isn't any need to have bloodwork done.

Actually ~ the only reason cultures can come back false negative many of the time is because people wait to get in to get their culture done. If people can get in within the first 24 - 48 hours of the outbreak or rash then a herpes culture is very accurate. Of course if there is still any doubt as to what your herpes status is based on the culture results then a type specific herpes blood test would be in order. But to say that everybody should have blood work done no matter what is a bit over-the-top. Just my opinion of course..

Hang in there,

Angela

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
