Hello, Im 25 and i recently had my first oubreak of gential herpes. my symptoms included a yeast infection, itching, tingling, fatigue, and one sore on the labia and one on vaginal opening. My gyn did a culture on the sore on the labia 2 days after it appeared. the culture came back postitive for HSV-1 but it said no HSV-2 was isolated. She did a blood test to confirm the results. I'm waiting on the results and i have another week to go. I'm so nervous because i know that with genitalHSV-1 I will have fewer outbreaks and for some reason if its not HSV-2 I will feel a little better emotionally. I guess its bcuz of the stigma that is attached to HSV-2. My question is what is the likelihood that the culture was wrong and that i have both types of genital herpes (assuming that the sample was handled appropriately) ? Any response will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Nervous Wreck!!!!

I would consider your history - have you had exclusively oral sex, or both vaginal and oral? This could affect the results. Coming back strictly HSV-1 indicates you only have HSV-1. Furthermore, the fact that it did come back positive indicates effective handling (generally it is a NEGATIVE result which should be considered inconclusive on culture tests). Try not to think about it so much - also, test results a lot of times come back quicker than they tell you so you might now quickly.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
