Hi there, well utterly confused! I have been pretty sure that I have either HS1 or HS2. I have definately had a coldsore in the last couple of weeks but many months prior to this I was suspicious that i had genital herpes. My problem is that the symptoms to actually see in this area don't seem to be at all typical, they are just a couple of flat red areas. I visited my doctors as soon as i noticed straight after xmas, he had no idea so i made an appointment at my STD clinic. I was there twice and actually saw 3 different people there. None of them thought i had herpes. i had 2 local tests done both came back negative. I was also negative for e/thing else. However my sores do not crust etc so i was unsurprised the tests came back neg. They then signed me off.

Of course i would rather not have herpes but i was never convinced particularly as i had so many of the illness symptoms that can go along with the infection and have not felt properly well since xmas. I've been tested for various other illnesses too but my bloodwork etc is all healthy. When i got this coldsore the other week though on my nose i just thought clearly i do have it! The person i believe i contracted it from is aware but does not think he has it, i don't think he is lying but i believe he could just be carrying. I've only had 2 partners so it's quite easy for me to work it out. Hmm sorry for going on! Just helps to vent as i can't seem to convince anyone i have this!

It's not clear whether you have had a *blood test* for herpes. Go to the doctor or clinic and force them to give you a blood test, one that distinguishes between Herpes 1 and Herpes 2.

I have herpes 2 with no symptoms, and the only reason I know is because I was trying to be thoroughly tested for STDs so I wouldn't infect my new partner with anything. And, lo and behold, I came back positive.

Doctors these days are still in the stone age with regard to testing for herpes. They still think you can't spread herpes unless you have symptoms, which we now know is untrue. They think, if asymptomatic people can't spread it, why give them the test and upset them when it comes back positive? Also, recently have they created tests that distinguish between HSV1 and HSV2, but doctors don't seem to know this either. It used to be the case that a blood test for "herpes" would almost always come back positive because almost everyone has HSV1. So, most doctors won't give you the blood test until after you have tested positive by testing blisters or other physical signs. But, if you really want to know, which you seem to, force them to give you the blood test.

Thanks for the advice! Been on my hols so a bit late checking back in. Yes it does seem as though i'm really going to have to demand a blood test. they really don't want to give it to you though...weird isn't it! I'm sure i have it though, it's just to prove it to them almost and i guess if i should ever need a prescription etc as my outbeaks aren't typical.

Be forewarned that public clinics sometimes don't do herpes testing *at all* (as I wrote in a more recent post). My ex-boyfriend went in to get tested at a public clinic in Virginia last month because they did walk-ins, and *after* they drew two vials of his blood, they told him they didn't do herpes testing *at all* in public clinics in Virginia. They also don't test for HPV. They told him he had to go to a private clinic or doctor.

Maybe in your case they just didn't have the *ability* to check for herpes. Anyway, just a little more info in case it helps!

Hmm, no they don't offer the blood test at my GUM clinic. I saw my GP this morning and she asked me "why do you want to have that test?" Duh! To find out once and for all if this is what I have! She doesn't think that it is and informed me "If you had herpes you'd know it."

Do they want to keep the numbers down or something? I'm really starting to feel that this STI spreads a lot of the time because people are not taken seriously. I'm articulate and intelligent and state my case clearly but keep coming up against a brick wall. I guess i'll go private, my thoughts are that if you are paying people will be more likely to give you the test!

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.
