central nervous system symptoms with herpes

Hi. I was diagnosed HSV-II last December. Genitals, tonsils and systemic involvement including paresthesias, 28 year old male. Two months later I developed urinary retention and frequency, urethritis, burning pains in arms, leg, feet, numbnesses, tailbone pain, bowel problems. These symptoms have come and gone for over eight months now. Docs thought it could be MS but my tests, including MRIs, have been negative. Has anyone here experienced anything similar - CNS involvement or peripheral neuropathies - related to herpes infection? Thanks

neurological symptoms with herpes?

I have just received blood tests confirming positive for Herpes 2. Have had white spots on tonsils for 8 months (is not tonsilitis), fatigue, muscle weakness, sinusy head, ear pain, insomnia due to these sensations, tingling/pins and needles in all limbs, sometimes face and across chest. I also have a tailbone "soreness". I do not have any genital symptoms. Have had MRI, Nerve conduction tests, CT Scans all perfect. Can this virus get into my nervous system? I thought it just lived in the nerve root of the site of infection?

I had a D & C in 2007, and have not been myself since. Could I contract this virus through surgery or could it have been triggered by this?

When my HSV2 infection was at its highest I had stinging in my heart and my hands and feet were burning - I reckon its most probably your Herpes infection that are causing these symptoms.....

Everybody tells us that herpes is a small thing to have - I dont think so - even my tabs and immune system seems to cope very well with my infection - some kind of symptoms are always there reminding me; - its very seldom I have a day with no "hello" from my Herpes infection......even it doesnt show on my genitals.....

Fatique with herpes

I feel for you. I since I was 19 have had wierd symtoms associated with herpes. Initial predorome I feel like it effects my brain and feel confused or wierd and ill at ease. Then within 24 hours or so I feel this wierd urinary syptom that involves urine feeling hot to touch and real fullness feeling in bladder coupled with frequency. Sometimes urine even smells different. Later sores appear althogh sometimes I do not get sores yet get all the other bad symptoms. Then I have other wierd symtoms which include oily hair and extreme fatique and just not feeling myself or well for about six days. Unfortunately I have gotton 3 attacts about every two weeks in last month and a half. Otherwsie did not have any attacks for 4 or 5 months. In mid 30's I was getting outbreaks all the time. Sometimes 3 or 4 ain a minth. All over the place. And fior ages kept a jounal trying to figure out triggers. To no avail. Herpes has been a real downer for me and has affected me in a very negative way for years. Wish i typed quicker as I would go on.

You so right on. I've kept trying to reminding myself of how many times I've read materials reminding me the herpes is a small thing to have. But for 18 years now the reality is that its so much more serious than a minor annoyance. Like you wrote "its very seldom I have a day with no "hello" from my Herpes infection." Your honesty is refreshing.

when I was first infected almost two years ago, I kept getting what I thought was yeast infection/bladder infections/BV, etc.. The doctors would say I must have already killed the infections with my herbal or homeopathic remedies but still had a little inflammation. Anyway, I was also having some horrible joint pain, especially in my hips and knees. I had been having brain fog, etc... a lot of the same symptoms you are mentioning. I honestly attributed it to having menapause since I am about 41. I don't know if you want to try these things but I found these things helped me a bit. here is the sad bit... it may actually get worse before getting better due to what they call a healing crisis.. If you decide to try these.. they could take upwards of a month to start feeling better. Sucks it has to get worse to get better. Maybe try the lowest doses and up it every week to ease into healing??

B12 - for energy

CoQ10 - for nerve repair

ATP - energy and nerve repair

Bee propolis - energy and clearing the brain fog

Sulfur (MSM) (pill form) - general healing of the body. Due to how a lot of food is grown today we don't get the basic supplement for our body.

Now, on a weird side note, I was given xanax to chill me out due to the menapause and I have found if I can take half a pill of .25mg as a prodome starts up it eases it right up. Don't know why. Maybe the fact that it literally chills me out? I wouldn't recommend taking on a regular basis due to possibility of addiction, but for the once or twice a week.. why not if it works. Helps too.

I don't know if these things will work for you. This seems to be a very personalized virus when it comes to what helps. I hope you try one of these for about a month to see if it helps one or more of the symptoms. I go to swanson vitamins.com online but you can go to any healthstore.. I think walmart has all of these.

If it helps with giving you some energy or clearing up the brain fog, then maybe it would be worth it? Just to give you some relief. I know it is soo disheartening and just so draining when doctors just don't get it. when people don't get it. They think you are going crazy or just lying. Makes you feel like you are going crazy. BUT, you need to remember you aren't alone in what you are feeling within your body. The doctors just don't know how to handle it, and if they can't figure it out, they claim it's in our brain. it's the lack of creativity on their part.

One of my weirdest prodomes is the bad knee pain almost like RA (Rheumatoid arthritis). I was walking down stairs like a 100 year old woman... sideways one very slow step at a time. One day I literally was sliding down on my butt since it was less painful with no weight on the knees bending them.

Now, my daily supplements and pills include the following (not just for herpes..lol) - I am a diabetic too.

Famvir 500mg 2x daily

MSM 3000mg 2-3x daily (if I can remember to take during middle of day)

CoQ10 200mg 1-2x daily - this gives me a bit of energy and I notice a real difference in the joint and butt pain if I forget this for several days. At one point I was taking 400 mg daily - sometimes 2x daily.

Vitamin D 2000mg daily

Bee propolis 250mg 2-3x daily for energy and brain fog

ATP - energy and heals the mitochondria (nerve endings).. hint hint for the nerve pain

melatonin - 1 at night for sleep

Calendula flower 400mg 2x daily- it seems to be helping me with the inflammation I have for diabetes and the herpes.

and of course, fish oil/primrose oil combo for cholesterol and menopause.

I don't know if these things can help you, I just wanted to give you some kind of hope that it will ease up. That maybe you can find SOMETHING that will give you a bit of relief, if not complete relief

Now several of these can cause thinning of blood, and possibly interact with other medications or herbal treatments. Make sure you check out any interactions by researching. Don't just trust in what you read on this site. Do the research and decide for yourself if you feel something is viable and safe for you to try. For a lot of supplements, it can take 4-6 weeks for it to build up in your system and start to do any good.

I have tried so many different things, I cannot begin to tell you the crazy stuff I have tried even after researching. I was soo very desperate for any relief...even temporary..that I tried some crazy things. I probably would have tried bathing in cows urine if I thought it would help.. NO I haven't heard anything about that. Last I heard, the most it can do is help with freckles and it is just plain gross. Mom tried it as a kid for her freckles.. lol

Point being, after a while you start to feel so desperate for anything to ease it up.. even if just for a day. Be careful, do you research and try not to do anything too crazy.. and if you do, try to minimize any of the repercussions by being hygienic. Though, preferably, would rather you didn't do the things that might damage your health worse.

Hugs and hope for relief for you.

it is not "no big deal" i think i get headaches that can last for a week, i mean i go to sleep and wake up with them, that can be attributed to hsv1 residing behind my eyeball hear my temple..

whenever i think of %90 of the pop having some sort of hsv it reminds me of the iphone game: plague inc

Hi @Anxious 1234 Did you get diagnosis for this?

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Well thank you I appreciate it

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
