does anybody know about the recurrence rates for hsv2 cold sores? cuz that's the only explanation i can figure out for why i'm having the experience i am -- 8 weeks in a row of cold sore outbreaks, and ive had cold sores long before i was ever sexually active, just not to this degree....

Well, I don't know. I'm not a (medical) doctor. I would search online for an STD clinic near your home or work and walk in and get tested. If you still have blisters, they can get a sample and test it. Also get a blood test that distinguishes between Herpes 1 and Herpes 2.

Maybe the previous cold sores weren't cold sores after all, but canker sores?? Then you could be having your first outbreak of Herpes 1 right now. (Just hypothesizing. I'm not a doctor.)

Hang in there. You will be okay!! :)

no i definately have had cold sores before...and some quite recently (in the last year)...it's just they weren't for 8 weeks straight...i'd have one or two (i'd use h202 and witch hazel) and they'd go away and not come back for a while...i was prescribed topical acyclovir 8 weeks ago, which was relatively useless, and recently i got prescribed the oral acyclovir, and it SEEMS to be helping somewhat........idk, so frustrating -- destroyed what could have been a wonderful summer vacation in california

I am confused... were you diagnosed HSV2?? Cold sores are primarily HSV1... and tests are not location specific unless it was a culture of a coldsore...

no...no doctor diagnosed me with one or the other...but they both said it was obvious i had cold sores...but ive DEFINATELY had them a long time before...this is why im so confused...ive heard stuff about greater immune disorders...or thyroid disorders...that might affect the lengths of outbreaks...

i'll have a break of maybe a couple days or a week at most...then boom! for the last 8 weeks...(again, ive tested for hiv, and got -, but im thinking i should do it again

my lips and face are clean (except for healing sores--slowly), but i'm afraid...taking tons of anti-viral+immune supplements (10+/d), and i got oral and topical acyclovir now...but im scared

Go back to the doctor (or get another doctor) and force them to do their jobs! You need to get cultures and blood tests done, and they need to be able to explain to you what's going on. Tell them how you're feeling and what your theories are (Oral HSV2, immune issues, etc.) and have them disprove or confirm them.

i agree!!! altho, i HOPE i WON'T be able to get culture tests done, if u know what i mean...and i heard neither blood nor culture tests are that accurate...both doctors who saw me told me they were a waste of time...also, i heard someone else on here who was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder mention recurrent episodes within such a short time period...does anyone know much about any association between thyroid disorders and hsv???

This article on this site is really good. Answered all my questions. Basically, it says that HSV2 cold sores almost never recur.

http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/herpes_simplex_1_and_2.htm

That is a great site! To the point and very easy to understand.......Here is another one, but it's not so simple......a clinical study with the same results.

A waste of time? You really shouldn't go back to those doctors. That's just ridiculous.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us

To give everyone confidence that it wasn’t herpes related and conclude as the doctor did that it was a dermatitis issue to refer back to the dermatologist to continue with investigations.
