olive leaf extract

I'm new to this but I have done a ton of reading...I have asymptomatic genital hsv2...I have read that 20% olive leaf extract can inhibit if not suppress viral shedding...does anyone know what percentage it can decrease it?

I have never seen studies about olive leaf extract, but have seen them for lysine and antivirals. Here is a good link about transmission rates with taking antivirals:

Come to the "Chat Room", there you will find many nice fellow Herpsters who can offer you their support.

Good luck!

Hello JB, thanks for the link...besides having some actual numbers it is very positive...something that I'm needing right now :)...I have found many references for olive leaf extract and if I could get some more definitive stats on it I would rather take that than Valtrex as it has no side effects and is quite a bit less expensive...I'll keep looking and if I find anything will be sure to post for those of us who are into that type of treatment

Hi,

I am interested in olive leaf extract as well and other herbs to reduce asymptomatic shedding.

so far 20% olive leaf extract is the only herbal remedy to inhibit/suppress viral shedding...it really depends on which source you read as to the degree it inhibits...I have read that it compares closely to Valtrex but I want to confirm with an actual research paper...but it does sound promising to me

here is some more info from good ol' wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive_leaf

I'm going to start researching the active compound, oleuropein and see what I can come up with...and a clarification of my previous post...it should be 20% oleuropein from the olive leaf extract

if anyone has any info on this I would be so grateful :)

after doing more reading, I've decided to take the 20% oleurpein from olive leaf extract, Andrographis & Echineceae...the latter two have a synergistic effect...all 3 of these have antiviral properties and have shown to inhibit viral shedding

Hottfoxxy: How much do you take/day? and how did you decide on that amount? Most of the references I've found are for acute symptoms rather than chronic...I did explain at the health food store what my intentions are, that I want to suppress viral shedding and they recommended a lower dose every day...for the Andrographis and Echineceae it was recommended a low dose every day with the occaisional break of up to 2 weeks

Ok well the red spots have gone away, do you still have any external symtpoms?

Looks a bit similar to what I have. People will tell you it’s not herpes because it’s spred out or does not look like herpes, but my doctors are running out of answers/prescriptions to give me. ive had a host of other symptoms never before felt in my body. my tests are negative for now. I had a swab yesterday, but I’m not sure if it was an area that will yield anything. It was more a plea of something hurts, please swab this. its taken me months to get someone to swab me. I recently found out a hospital did not test my blood for HSV even after I requested it. Messed up, huh?

Ok So I had unprotected sex with a girl about 5 days ago and the day after I had masturbated an abnormal amount for whatever reason. The following day I noticed my urethra and penis had a bit of pain and then I began to have abnormal pelvic pain, though the lymphnodes in my groin area were not swollen or sensitive. After about three days the pelvic pain continued and my urethra soreness continued as well despite my lack of masturbation. I have also had abnormal headaches and my usual lower back pain as an active athlete. No sores or lesions of sorts just a couple of red spots as I had shaved recently before having the unprotected sex and all these red spots are painless and do not itch. I have also had a constant urge to pee. I am on a rollercoaster of convincing myself that I do not have it and then hitting the internet with my symptoms and going into a panic that I could have HSV 2. Am i being a hypochondriac or should I be worried? Thanks guys
