Tongue

I was newly diagnosed 2 months ago on a culture in back of throat. For the past 2 months I have had swelling on tongue, redness, pain when eating, drooling in mouth. It seems to be in the front of the tongue and moves where the bumps and swelling occurred. I called the herpes hotline and was told it is rare to have it like this. I had another culture 2 weeks ago this time on the tongue and it was also positive. The blood test was still negative for HSV1. I am taking Valtrex for the past 2 weeks 1 mg per day but it does not seem to be helping but who knows what it would be like without Valtrex. Tongue just makes it so hard to concentrate as I feel the swelling all the time and the tongue pain is in the front of the tongue which constantly hits the teeth. Any comments appreciated. I also tested negative for HSV2.

I am not a doctor but...it doesn't seem to me that the problem with your tongue is herpes. Your bloodwork was negative after 2 months...that's pretty strange. The culture was positive. I'm confused too. My culture was positive three weeks ago & i just got my bloodwork back and it was positive too. If it is herpes and it's located there...it will be difficult to heal because it can't dry out. I will suggest taking massive vitamins, including Lysine to build your immune system. Maybe the bloodwork is negative because you haven't built up your antibodies. Ask your doctor to increase the amount of valtrex that you are taking. Avoid caffeine, nuts, and foods high in arginine: see this website: http://www.freewebtown.com/fooddb/nutrdefs/511/2100.html for foods to avoid. Maybe you just need to get through this outbreak and then maintain your immune system. Did you go to an ear, nose and throat specialist? Hope I've helped.

the fact that I have had 2 positive cultures for hsv1 one in mid June and one in early August makes me think it is herpes but I will take another blood test next month to make sure as the blood test I think should be positive within 4 months of exposure. I will see an ENT as well as my tongue has small white blisters that start in one area, go away and then go to another area. Sometimes my tongue gets very swollen as well.

To give some context I hve been suffering with this for the last 6/7 years this came about after I had varicella zoster on the inside of my body a week after I started getting clusters of spots on the top of my buttock they are not painful as such can be itchy at times but majority of the time I don’t feel it when I have an outbreak. I’ve been to various doctors who say it’s a fungal skin infection or a bacterial skin infection. I’ve asked if it’s herpes but they will say it’s not without even testing it.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us
