First time ever having unprotected sex with a woman who I as well as any other man wouldn't for a second suspect that she'd be carrying an std, burns me. She was smart, fresh out of college, had her own, and had an incurable std. Now I'm apart of this stigma that will never go away. The thing that really pisses me off is I come on hear for comfort and have people tell me that hsv is just a simple virus. F*ck it aint'!!!!!! An incurable sexually transmitted disease that can bring you both physical and psychological pain. I as well as any other woman who'd I have the balls to disclose this info with will see me as the plague. A year and a half of this sh*t and I'm still pissed.

Herpes is just a simple virus. 80% of adults have it in one form or another. The flu virus kills 30,000 people a year, so next to that, this is nothing. You can live a normal life with this, I know, I have. I have dated many women and have NEVER been rejected because of this.

Many people have told me that getting herpes changed their lives for the better. They have reevaluated their lives and start eating better, working out and are more selective in whom they date.

How you perceive this virus will determine how you live with it. If you see it as a plague the women you approach will probably as well. I think of it as nothing and so have the women I have dated.

Good luck!

JB

I understand how u can be upset... I had all the same emotions... Truth is, I had to slap myself in the face and say listen bitch this wasn't your fault.. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.. U don't have a time machine so stop feeling sorry for yourself. Yes sex is a wonderful part of life but it is not the only part. U need to get off ur ass and live ur life. This virus doesn't define me.. I'm not a f*ckin virus.. If someone wants to judge who I am because of something with the equivalency of a cold sore, they that person isn't worth my time. Now I'm not saying its the best thing that ever happened but seriously ppl with diabetes, obesity, HIV, cancer, Alzheimer's all have something more to worry about. I hope even after a year and a half of "this shit" really doesn't keep u from being urself and living a normal life. Sometimes u have to just have to say "what the f*ck".. There's no changing this.. So why let it ruin ur life?

I understand you're upset, I was too and I think everyone is when they find out. I still get depressed about it and it's been 2 months since my diagnosis.

But do you realize that saying no one would ever suspect the woman you slept with had an STD because she is "smart, fresh out of college, had her own..." continues the stigma? Women and men with herpes can still be attractive, intelligent, and successful. People with herpes don't look like drug addicts and prostitutes. Herpes affects people of all races, religions, and economic groups. It doesn't discriminate. It's also spreading around college campuses like wildfire. I believe I got it in college despite being an honors student (just goes to show you that intelligence doesn't matter at all when it comes to herpes).

This woman might not have even known she had herpes because even intelligent people don't have the facts about this virus. They think they need to have outbreaks all the time to have it. Did you know 1 in 4 women in the US has herpes? That's how common it is.

Are you 100% sure you got it from this woman? You can get herpes while using a condom and you can have it for years without ever having an outbreak. You can also get it from oral sex.

Sorry about the bad news However...

But you would have probably gotten it anyhow even if you had worn it. Herpes is a disease of the skin, not of bodily fluids. So if your skin had contact with her skin, you get it. Pretty simple. I suppose that's why so many people are infected with this sneaky little f#cker!!!

Sort of unrelated, but I remember a few months ago finding new patents filed last year for the einstein college vaccine. I wondered if they were indicative of new developments with it, but I brushed it off as probably not.

I have not had sexual contact for at least half a year with a partner of more than four years monogamous, one non-protected encounter four years ago different women and then a few more non-protected over ten years ago.   One morning, I woke up after a having bad night time sweats (common) with a bad itch in my pubic region hair on right side about halfway between my penis and belly button. I did not look closely to later that night and noticed a large red rash, but don't believe I looked that closely. At some point I noticed a blister or something and tried to pop it and then walked away, I think being in denial I didn't want to look that closely, so I cant describe symptoms. This was on a Saturday or Sunday. The following Monday I went to work, where I do a physical demanding job al week, I noticed the area that had the rash showed about four areas that were infected (either cut or blistered) and would burn at night time during the week, They were located on my right side, directly where my belt buckle rubs. During the days that work week, my belt buckle would drive and rub in the area ( my buckle is metal square with pointy but not sharpe edges), I tried to pull my pants up and get the belt off the area but that was not always possible. After work that week, I took the weekend and then next two days off of work, the shooting pain evidently stopped and the area after a another week or two looked to be healing.  Week before symptoms: I have been under stress at work and the previous two days before the rash / OB I was working on a boat with another person, we were sharing work equipment and peeing with out washing hands (could he have had it and spread it to me through sharing of phones, equipment if he peed and then touch my phone, then I peed (sorry if stupid question)? My belt could have also been digging into me also, I have been wearing this belt for over a year and never had a problem. Currently, I took a Herpes 1 and 2 test from stdcheck using quest and it came back negative. Symptoms Dec 2/3 test Jan 21, negative results Jan 23. The area in pubic region is still red and appears to be scared but no open sores.   I know it is crazy but with the those symptoms I am still worried. Was that too soon to get a test? Is there any chance of getting if from a co-worker if they have it and touched the same things you did? Would you recommend getting another blood test in 3 months? Thank you for your input.

Doctors will tell you this, but it's incredibly irresponsible of them, and it's advice that needs to be ignored. You always need to disclose your status before having sex with someone.

The general public is just really poorly educated when it comes to virology in my opinion. Part of it though is just the fact that there's only so much information a person can remember and care about at one time. However I've always felt like HPV is way more openly discussed than HSV, at least in women's spaces.
