I am in shock

Hello everyone. My name is Kim. I have been married for 7 years and I just found out 2 hours ago that my culture came out positive for Herpes. I had what I thought was a yeast infection for about a week and so I saw a midwife who told me that she thought it was herpes, I could not believe that she would say this. I was told that the typing will not be in until at least Friday. I am in an absoluet state of shock right now. My husband and I have only been with eachother for the past 8 years. He has had cold sores on his lip since he was a kid but I don't understand why I would not have an outbreak sooner. My other concern is with using Valtrex because I am a breastfeeding mother. Is there a conbination of vitamins that I can take? Please help me!!!

It can stay dormant in the body for years (ie you may have even caught it from a partner before your husband)or perhaps you've just been lucky and haven't caught it until now off him. I do know that people who get coldsores on thier lips shouldn't kiss babies but I guess you know that. Congratulations on your new-born, I would try and put all my concentration on to the baby. Herpes virus ain't going to go away, so don't let it ruin these precious first months with your baby. Good luck.

Pregnancy can impair the immune system, so it's possible that you've had the virus for a long time but that your fully functioning immune system had managed to keep it in check.

Congratulations on having a child.

I am not sure where you get the outbreaks but if it is genital thank your lucky stars your baby was not affected during birth (sometimes poses a risk if you have an outbreak or viral shedding during time of birth) because you never knew you had it, you were lucky that your baby didnt get it because you wouldnt have known to take added precautions during birth. Congratulations on being a new mom! The kissing babies while having cold sores is not a good idea but like the other person who posted said, your husband probably already knows that. It might be likely you have type 1 because you said your husband has had cold sores since he was little....which in actuality means he has had herpes since he was a child. Hope things work out....you are lucky to have a loving husband and a family....at least you are not alone.

Regarding my original post

I thank everyone for replying to me so fast! Actually this is my third child by my husband the baby is alomst 9 months old. I am still confused as to whether or not this outbreak will get worse. I have about 2 blisters right now and from what the midwife said, several lesions on my vagina. Are there stages to outbreaks??

To give some context I hve been suffering with this for the last 6/7 years this came about after I had varicella zoster on the inside of my body a week after I started getting clusters of spots on the top of my buttock they are not painful as such can be itchy at times but majority of the time I don’t feel it when I have an outbreak. I’ve been to various doctors who say it’s a fungal skin infection or a bacterial skin infection. I’ve asked if it’s herpes but they will say it’s not without even testing it.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us
