I was diagnosed last week with H. This is my first outbreak. I have been given Anti Viral treatment to take for 5 days.

My boyfriend has had outbreaks before and didnt know what it was no has never been diagnosed. He went to the clinic today and they have diagnosed it as H, but because this is not his primary outbreak they have not given him Acicilivor like they have given to me.

Is this right??

ugh no.

he has a virus, and has had outbreaks.

they should have given him a rx.

i would call/ go back if u can- and demand some medicine

and they only gave u enough meds for 5 days? u know its a lifelong thing... ur going to need to have more then 5 days

How many days do people usually take meds for?

Because I am getting my meds from the UK NHS service, they only prescribe 'they' think is right. I can try and demand but I'm not sure how lucky I will be. It all depends on the doctor you get at the time.

Do antivirals supress the outbreak? Why would they let my boyfriend walk out and just ride his outbreack out? Perhaps because we have a health service in debt and they dont wanna give us what we need.

I'm angry about this.

people usually take the meds- the rest of there lives.

and a primary outbreak can last a month+

i would go to a diffrent clinic doctor, bring the boyfriend, and get the meds u deserve

Waxed wrong, thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my posts. Being supported really is making a difference.

I am going to speak to my general practitioner and see if I can get a repeat prescription for the times I have an OB. I just cant imagine taking Anti Virals for the rest of my life?? Is that what everyone else does? But can you still get OB's while you are the meds?

yea, i usually switch between meds, and vitamins like rx3 times a week vit4- visa versa the next week..

pretty much, u want to supress the virus so u dont have outbreak, after outbreak after outbreak. and yes u can still get it> but the frequency, and general size of ur outbreak will be "suppressed" plus> the meds are supposed to help heal the sores faster then if u didnt take anything

I went to see my doctor this week who said he would give me another 10 days worth of meds, but no more. He said to get more treatment I need to be having a OB.

I told him that I knew other people who were on meds on a permanent basis, but he said unless I get 6 OB's per year then they wont consider giving me meds on a permanent basis.

My boyf is going to see his doctor today so maybe his will say something different, although my boyf has had several OB's this year so maybe he will be more successful.

It's very interesting to see the difference between the UK and teh US and how drugs are distributed. Because we have a national health service (which is free but we still pay for our drugs) they treat things differently. Plus our health service is in 13 billions £ of debt so we know we are NOT getting a proper level of service.

I will keep you posted.

wow, if i had to sit in the doctors office each time i had a outbreak i might kill someone.

i would look into more doctors, private ones> not the clinic kind- idk which u are seeiing> but maybe the private docs, will be a little more lax> and u can remind them that this is a CONTAGIOUS life long thing> and that if u spread this to anyone> they can be held responsible for not giving you the proper amount of medicine.

some people use meds, soem people don't!

primary outbreaks are the worst and are almost always used if it is bad.

i had to request valtrex and b/c i have outbreaks all the time i am on them forever now...

My boyfriend could not get any meds from his local doctor. They said it was for the STD clinic to deal with. But they would not give him meds either.

He has had at least 4 OB's in the 10 months we have been together.

Aciclovir is making me really ill now too. I get bad stomach cramps and diorehha. It's agony.

I had some nice sex this weekend though. But i started to feel pain again after the 3rd day of having sex twice a day. It upset me. My boyfriend and I like lots of sex and I feel like I have been cheated out of satisfying my desires by this infection.

I am afraid for the future that I will have loads of OB's and my sex life will be ruined.

I'm feelin really sad about it.

ladylid,

herpes affects people in so many ways. Not everybody takes anti-virals. In fact it seems most people only take anti-virals when they are starting an ob. Because you and your bf are both infected, you don't need anti-virals to reduce transmission. Unless you have a lot of obs or very severe ones, you don't need the meds. There are other things you can take to help reduce obs. Lysine is one of the biggest. You can also check on which foods to avoid. And take vitamins. If you get your immune system running good you shouldn't need anti-virals.

Some people stay on antivirals, but most people that go on them do it for a reason. Lots of obs or to reduce transmission to a negative partner. I am on famciclovir daily. I am only on it for one year though, at which point my body will hopefully be able to deal without the meds. I do not plan on staying on them for more than one year, and to be honest my obs weren't bad to begin with, I am really only on it to help reduce the risk to my negative bf. Otherwise I'd be experimenting as much as possible to find out what triggers my obs.

Good luck, if you have lots of obs your doctor will give you more meds.

I've got a sneaky idea.... your health service is a lot like ours in Oz, could you use a friends medicare card and attend a different GP's office and get a script in their name.. and that way you could get the treatment you deserve? Just a sneaky idea, and I don't mean to offend if you are not that way inclined.

I have hsv1 genitally I take Valtrex just like ginny said for the first year and then i will re-evaluate my situation, I have not had another outbreak since my first last December(fingers are crossed). And I also take 1250mg lysine daily. I sure wish all of you from other countries the best with your health care and your meds.

I know this may upset some people but after reading this post and the hoops are friends in other countries have to go through to get good health care and meds for suppression, is why we here in America we should NEVER EVER allow "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE" it would destroy everything we know about how to be treated for illnesses and diseases. Take care all.

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.

May 13 ( day I will never forget).. a guy I was dating and I drank way to much and decided to have anal sex. We did use protection however, not enough lube, wasn’t done correctly and it was painful. So bad that I yelled out and fell off the bed. Anyway, oral was also performed on me anal and vaginal. Flash forward to 3-4 days after that. I was in the most intense pain I had ever felt. I went to a gyn she tool one look and said it looks like herpes. She swabbed me . 2 days after that, yes it’s HSV1 . I was still in pain, irritated anal area and vaginal area and It was unbearable.  today, I still have irritation and itchy and when I pass a bowel i’m in pain and the itch is crazy.     When I first was diagnoses the gyn gave me valtrex which I did not take bc I was in so much pain I could not move for 2 days.  Groin lymphs were swollen I had fever , tired etc.  I am wondering if I had taken the valtrex would it have kinda liked stopped the virus in it’s tracks enough to reproduce? Do people see a correlation between no more outbreaks and immediate initial valtrex  use ? I am 43, I never thought this wound happen as I am not a promiscuous person, I hardly date and I always use protection when I do have intercouse , have yearly std tests. I’m just so sad that i’m at this point right now . I’m trying not to get depressed but this is making my body feel miserable. I’m an avid runner and biker and mom of two teens. I feel like my life as I knew is over. I want to feel better already.
